Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Plan to Cannibalize the Hydra Branch

With the slacking system, Steve Rogers would feel listless even if he wanted to work seriously.

He had been a slave to routine in his previous life, so in this one, he was determined to enjoy himself.

But life required firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, and tea. A house needed money, and although he had a vehicle, it was only a motorcycle.

In addition, he needed personal connections and trustworthy subordinates. Otherwise, as in this incident, when problems arose, he wouldn't even have anyone to turn to for help.

Of course, Maria Hill could suppress the situation, but that was only a temporary fix, not a long-term solution.

This crisis was over, but what about the next one? Knowing Wickman and his gang, even if someone collapsed on the street, they would still blame him for not helping!

Fine, if they're dissatisfied, then we'll deal with them—decisively.

Now that Alexander Pierce had compromised, there was no guarantee he wouldn't harbor other ideas.

Steve had to display overwhelming power to suppress this matter once and for all.

Killing the chicken to scare the monkey was a way to intimidate Pierce and make him obedient. Even if his inheritance was taken away, he'd have to endure it quietly without resistance.

With his soulmate beside him, Steve didn't mind sharing things with Sharon Carter.

After all, in his past life, he'd been an ordinary man. He had no experience in managing people or controlling subordinates.

The only reason he'd been able to handle Pierce before was because of his reputation—and because he knew many secrets Pierce didn't.

He had to take over S.H.I.E.L.D. as soon as possible before Pierce developed other plans. By the time Pierce realized what was happening, it would be too late—he'd already be sidelined.

Sharon's beautiful face still carried a hint of charm. Her slender toes, marked with teeth prints, playfully moved like the strings of a harp. Her bright eyes met his, locking on to him.

The two looked at each other in silence for a full minute.

"Husband, is there anything else you're hiding from me?" she finally asked softly.

"No," Steve said, his voice calm. "I used to think the world was black and white. But after the war and joining S.H.I.E.L.D., I realized it's not that simple.

"I once thought about just going with the flow… and I also thought about changing the rules myself. Later, I realized that the so-called rules are made by the powerful.

"If I'm strong enough, then I'll be the one who makes the rules. Even if the whole world says something is right, I'll still stand up and say it's wrong.

"Wife, if you think I'm a bad man, then maybe you're right. I don't know whether I'm good or bad—I only know that I'll stay true to my heart."

Steve looked at Sharon without blinking, without the slightest trace of guilt. He couldn't feel guilty—he wouldn't.

Who was he? The hero of World War II, a man thawed after seventy years in ice. A moral symbol. A spiritual leader of America.

Sharon didn't speak. She pulled him into her arms and gently stroked his hair. "You've suffered a lot, Steve. I'm willing to do all this for you. You're my love. No matter who stands against you, I'll be behind you. I'll be your harbor and your support."

Who said Sharon Carter didn't know how to comfort a man?

Her words moved Steve deeply. He wanted to devote himself to one woman, but the system wouldn't allow it!

The mission rewards were simply too good.

With so many supervillains emerging and Thanos's army looming in the future, he had to rely on the system to become stronger.

If he couldn't win, he would die.

He couldn't gamble on Thanos's snap. What if he survived but Sharon didn't—or the other way around? What then?

System: "Stop pretending, you just want a harem."

Ding! Detecting host's ambition and current situation—new mission released: Take control of Hydra's S.H.I.E.L.D. branch.

Mission: Help your girlfriend Sharon Carter become the leader of the S.H.I.E.L.D. branch, ensuring all undercover Hydra agents fall under her command.

Reward: Evolution of the host's super-soldier serum.

Serum evolution?

Steve was stunned. He was already a super soldier—what would an evolution look like?

The reward was tempting. He couldn't help but look forward to it.

But first, he needed to take control of the S.H.I.E.L.D. branch and help Sharon rise to the top.

"Sharon, once we take over Hydra's branch, let's get married," Steve said with a grin. "You're worth more than anything."

"Well, okay, husband," Sharon replied with a charming smile. "Now let's discuss the details. I can offer you some advice."

After their heartfelt conversation, Sharon no longer minded the lurking Hydra threat.

Sharon Carter was no innocent woman. Even in the original timeline, after Captain America: Civil War, she had become an anti-hero—wanted by the U.S. government for helping Steve and forced into hiding.

Later, she supported the Flag Smashers, who used stolen super-soldier serum to spread chaos, and took on the identity of the Power Broker, providing information and laundering money behind the scenes.

Her cunning and decisiveness were enough to impress even the most seasoned schemers.

Now that she and Steve shared the same goals, they divided the work clearly. Steve would provide funding, while Sharon would handle the recruitment and management of the Hydra operatives.

Steve would retake control of them, and Sharon would help with planning and strategy. Her position would gradually rise—from Assistant Secretary-General, to Deputy Secretary-General, and finally Secretary-General.

Together, they would slowly undermine and consume Hydra from within.

With Captain America's power and reputation, and Sharon's intelligence and connections, taking over a S.H.I.E.L.D. branch wasn't difficult—it was only a matter of time.

If he didn't have a plan, he might proceed cautiously. But now that he had both a plan and his wife's help, he couldn't afford to move too slowly.

Ultimately, strength ruled the world. Once Steve proved himself by completing a few major missions, many people would naturally choose to follow him.

After all, Captain America's name carried weight.

Following Sharon's suggestion, they spent the whole day refining their plan—and by evening, they called Maria Hill to join the discussion.

Convincing Hill was difficult, but fortunately, Steve's persuasive skills—and confidence—were exceptional.

In the end, the icy beauty relented.

As for the audacious idea of infiltrating Hydra and taking over its branch, Hill was shocked but promised she wouldn't tell anyone—not even Nick Fury.
