When Speaker Nancy woke up and was handed the videotape by his subordinates, he was completely stunned.
After watching the contents of the tape, he coughed up a mouthful of blood in rage.
"Slander! Pure slander! When did I ever contact anyone from the Ten Rings?" Nancy shouted furiously, his anger so great that he didn't even bother to blame S.H.I.E.L.D. this time.
He knew the accusation was false — but the problem was, the part about the charity foundation corruption and dealings with Middle Eastern terrorists was true.
When the second videotape arrived, his face turned pale. It wasn't just documents this time — there were also video recordings showing him giving the orders himself.
This had to be stolen footage!
The culprit could only be Wakeman — he was the one who gave those orders in the first place. Who else could have secretly filmed close-ups at the time?
As long as evidence existed, S.H.I.E.L.D. would find a way to obtain it.
Hydra agents wouldn't joke around — if they didn't have evidence, they'd fabricate it.
Just like he had used Captain America's situation to stir up trouble — now it was time to pay the price.
Nancy smashed several antique vases in rage. "Fine! Fine! Wakeman, just you wait!"
He grabbed a backup phone and dialed a private number.
"What is it?" came a cold, tired voice on the other end.
"Sir, Wakeman betrayed us. He was kidnapped by the Ten Rings, and they're demanding one billion dollars in compensation from us!" Nancy reported quickly, not daring to be careless. If he mishandled this, his entire career would be over.
An hour later, Senator Stern arrived at Nancy's villa. The Speaker stood by respectfully as he served him tea — a rare sight, since technically, the Speaker's rank was higher than a senator's.
But within Hydra, Stern outranked him.
After watching the video, Stern frowned.
"Prepare the money. One and a half billion. I'll send someone to deal with those terrorists."
"Sir!" Nancy cried out in disbelief.
"Hmph. The so-called 'stock god' of Capitol Hill can't even produce that much?" Stern sneered. "You've made far more than a billion by now."
It was true — being Senate President was a lucrative position. Construction, arms deals, war budgets — every major bill passed through his hands, and each brought profit.
Nancy's expression twisted in frustration. He had made over two billion, but that was over many years. No one kept that much cash on hand — it was all tied up in assets and investments.
The Ten Rings demanded cash, not a transfer. Where was he supposed to find that kind of money so quickly?
"If you don't have it, figure it out," Stern snapped. "Your wife's family is rich, aren't they? If you can't come up with the money, then you'd better disappear before I make you disappear myself!
Do you think I run this organization for free? Saving your life for 500 million is already generous — I'm not asking for a penny more.
Now use your head for once and get it done!"
He hung up angrily.
Nancy wiped his sweat and took a deep breath. "Yes, sir. I'll raise the money immediately. Please… give me three days."
He knew the stakes — money could be earned again, but losing his position meant losing everything. Without status, all the luxury, women, and power he enjoyed would vanish instantly.
After leaving the villa, Stern pondered for a moment and decided to call Alexander Pierce.
What he didn't know was that this entire situation had been orchestrated by Steve Rogers after he had taken over Pierce's influence — a classic case of black eating black.
Stern was furious. "We already asked Pierce for help, and now you're interfering too?"
By now, the focus had completely shifted. No one cared about the hearing against Captain America anymore.
Steve's strategy worked perfectly — using one internal conflict to resolve another, without anyone realizing he was the mastermind behind it.
Who would have thought that Captain America, the symbol of justice, could be so cunning?
Later that day, after Pepper Potts went to work, Steve Rogers called Sharon Carter over for a private talk.
She arrived dressed like a confident professional — a fitted vest and trousers that outlined her perfect figure, black strappy heels about eight centimeters tall, and sheer stockings that gave off a faint shimmer.
Steve froze for a moment. The sight alone was enough to make him forget his plans.
"Steve, is something wrong?" Sharon asked softly.
Before she could say another word, Steve closed and locked the door.
A long, long while later…
Scattered clothes and shoes lay all over the floor, silent proof that the "battle" had been intense.
Thanks to his stamina and skill, Steve came out victorious. Sharon, exhausted yet glowing with satisfaction, rested against him as he began explaining everything.
After hearing his story, she immediately became alert. "Honey, are you asking me to infiltrate the Council?"
As a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Sharon was familiar with Hydra's history. Her aunt, Peggy Carter, had often told her about the evil organization that fueled World War II.
"Yes," Steve nodded. "S.H.I.E.L.D. has been infiltrated, and Hydra's influence stretches across the world. The accusations against me were just another of their ploys to manipulate power within the organization."
He took a sip of water and continued, explaining how he had confronted Pierce and how Maria Hill had stepped in to help.
Sharon's eyes widened in admiration. "You're incredible, Steve. You managed to take control so quickly!"
"We can't trust anyone," Steve said seriously. "I only trust you, Hill, and Boz."
He didn't hide his relationships, and Sharon — though slightly uncomfortable — didn't get jealous.
"So, what's your plan?" she asked. "Do you want us to each manage different factions?"
"Exactly," Steve replied. "We need to prepare for future wars. Red Skull isn't dead — I'm sure of it. He'll come back. If he regains control of Hydra's resources, the world will suffer.
Rather than letting him take over, I'll take over first. That way, we can protect our future — and our children."
Steve smiled faintly.
He didn't really plan that far ahead — mentioning "children" was just a convenient excuse.
The truth was simpler: he just didn't like using protection.
