SLOANE POV
The heavy storm from our confrontation had finally cleared, leaving a tense, watchful quiet in the house. A few days passed, and Caelan stayed out of my way, busy with his own corporate battles.
"Mrs. Maddox, there is a delivery for you," Mrs. Albright called out from the front entrance hall.
I set my coffee mug down on the kitchen island and walked out. A courier was waiting by the open front door, holding a digital tablet. He looked slightly disappointed when I walked up.
"Sign here, please," the courier said, handing me the screen.
I signed his tablet, looked down at the plastic card pinned to his chest, and smiled. "Thank you, Arthur."
He blinked, surprised that I had used his name, and then he left.
