SLOANE POV
Rowe sniffled loudly, staring at me as he processed the words. He let out one last, shaky sigh, his small shoulders finally dropping as the tension drained out of him. He didn't argue. He just nodded weakly, crawling back under the heavy duvet and pulling it up to his chin.
I looked up at Jasper and Emmet, who were still hovering by the edge of the bed. "Come here, you two," I whispered, opening one arm.
They scrambled onto the mattress, piling in next to Rowe. For the next hour, I stayed right there with them, tucking the heavy blankets tightly around their small shoulders, checking their pillows, and humming a low, wordless melody in the dark. I watched their long eyelashes flutter, casting shadows against their cheeks, until their breathing finally went deep and rhythmic, all three of them drifting off into a safe, dreamless sleep.
I slipped out of the room quietly, closing the door behind me until the latch clicked into place without a sound.
