Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: mood swings

"Huh?" He froze in his seat for a few seconds before he got up and rushed behind her.

"Wait, Lena!" but it's too late.

Thud!

She slammed the door in his face.

He stood in front of the door, shocked.

"What just happened?"

.....

On the other side of the door.

Lena simmered in anger for a while before coming to herself. She stood in the middle of their room, gently stroking her flat stomach.

"So this is the angry feelings Chloe talked about…the famous mood swing. It makes me feel so... different, but I love it. After dreaming about it for so long, I finally get to experience it… hmmmm, it feels wonderful."

After swimming in the feelings for a while, she took a deep breath and sat down on her bed.

"Now that I've come to myself, I feel awkward. Should I walk out of the room by myself or wait for him to knock on the door and get me or… whatever, he'd better knock on the door and beg me."

Then she lay down on the mattress and waited for him, but she unknowingly fell asleep.

When she woke up again,15 minutes had passed. She sat up on her bed, trying to remember something.

"Right! So that man didn't knock on the door, and he even allowed me to fall asleep! Ahh, but the sleep already calms me down. Baby, let's forgive him this one time."

Then she headed out of the room and into the living room. When she entered, she saw him sitting on a chair drinking orange juice.

Her anger rose again; she walked to him and raised her hand.

"Give me the juice; I'm seizing it!"

After he gave her the juice, she drank it in one go.

"Hmmmm, nice. Where's mine?"

"There on the table. I squeezed it na too long ago. Leh me bring it for you."

Then he got up and brought it to her.

Afterwards, he sat down again and waited for her to sit and drink her juice.

"If you get something to say, say it and stop looking at me like that." After she said that, she sat down on a chair opposite him. Her husband held her hands and began his speech.

"Okay, Lena, I am sorry for earlier. I wanted to stop you from going to the farm earlier because I care about you. But I was also scared that something would happen to you and the baby. You know how long we waited for it. But again, I am sorry because in my worries, I forgot how badly you wanted the baby. And finally, that we have it, I forgot that you also want to protect and keep it safe the same way I do. Don't be angry, okay?"

"Huuuh, I'm also sorry. I shouldn't have reacted like that, but I couldn't control myself. I want to promise you, but I can't"

"Mmm, I know. Let's get ready to go to the farm; it's already after 9 o'clock."

Then they got up, headed into their room, changed into their farming clothes, and went into the kitchen. They packed the remaining deer pepper soup, rice, and the plaintee soups in separate bowls and headed to their farm.

After walking for 35 minutes, they arrived at their fenced farm. The fence door was locked with a padlock.

"Hmmm? When did you fence the front of our farm and even put a door and a lock on it?"

"I did it this morning around 5 after I came from the hunting tent. That's the main reason I wanted to help you with planting today." As he replied, he took out the key and opened the fence.

After Aaron opened the farm door, the farm came into view. To the right side of the fence stood a very big cotton tree. 10 steps away from it sat a two-room farmhouse that faced the farm with an open porch and a makeshift kitchen at the back.

The farm was 4.5 acres altogether.

Rice, cassava, and corn were planted neatly in lines. And peppers, bitter balls, eggplants, and okra were planted separately on a piece of land.

"Oooh, ley farm really changed, huh? Solar light bulbs hanging all on the tree branches?"

"Yeah, Thomas, Leo, Walter, and I came up with the idea to hang light bulbs on our farms. We did it this morning. We hang bulbs on the trees and in our farmhouses. Even the fallen dry trees that you and their wives plan to plant cucumbers beside, we put bulbs on all of them. This way, animals would be scared to come to our farms. Next week, after we buy new solar light bulbs, we will hang them on our fences."

"Your did a great job. I will tell Agnes, so her husband can do the same thing."

As they walked and chatted, they reached the farmhouse and entered. They put away the food they'd brought, picked up their tools and the seeds they'd be planting, and headed to the unfinished side. After they arrived, they began the planting.

They worked until 2 o'clock. Then they went to have lunch. After they were done, they headed to Aaron's aunt's farm.

The farm was a 3-minute walk away.

At the Hopeson's farm;

Old Mrs Hopeson(Aunt Mary), her three sons, seven grandsons, and her great-granddaughter were already done with their lunch. They were resting on the open porch of their farmhouse.

When Lena and her husband arrived.

"Your hellooo family", Lena greeted them after they entered the porch.

"Hellooo / hello auntie" Everybody replied

"Hello, dear. Come sit down leh lecture small," Auntie Mary.

"Aunt, how's your day going?"

Aaron greeted them after they sat down.

"I'm okay; you and your brothers did really well on our two farms. Your keep it up."

Lena looked at everybody and announced

"Ahem, we have good news to share, huuu huuug, I'm pregnant!" she said, smiling.

Except for the couple, everyone else froze.

Auntie Mary was the first to react.

"What! What! The Lord has done it! The lord has done! hallelujah! He has done it! Just like he did it for Hannah and Sarah! He said, 'There is nothing too big for me ', and he did it! Everybody should get their church clothes ready; we'll stomp the church tomorrow!" she spoke as she did a celebration dance around.
