Elera's POV
I hurried back into the cell, the doors hissing shut behind me. My heart sank to my stomach the moment my eyes landed on Kael. He was completely passed out on the floor, his massive body slumped awkwardly against the chains. His skin was pale, and his breathing was shallow.
An overwhelming wave of guilt and utter helplessness washed over me. I had promised to protect him, yet I had just stood by and watched my own colleagues cook him alive with thousands of volts of electricity.
Before I could sink any deeper into my own despair, a sharp, ragged cough echoed from the center of the room.
I whirled around to look at the upright strap table. Ravenna's eyes fluttered open, her pupils dilating rapidly as she fought the heavy fog of the adrenaline serum. She violently shook her head, trying to clear her vision, and immediately took in her surroundings.
