"What?!" Kade shouted loudly.
The shout escaped his mouth before he could even control it. The sound echoed sharply in the quiet study.
Kade quickly slapped his hand over his mouth. He realized he had just yelled at his commander. He immediately lowered his hand and bowed his head deeply, his face turning slightly pale.
"My apologies, my lord," Kade said quickly, trying to compose himself. His voice was shaking with shock. "I spoke out of turn."
Kade stood up straight again, but his mind was spinning in chaos. He looked at Damon's back.
Kade thought to himself, his internal voice filled with utter disbelief.
"How can the general know?" Kade thought frantically. "Lady Isabel said the Lady betrayed him. And the General is just standing there, looking unbelievably calm? If the Lady truly betrayed him, why isn't he furious? Why isn't he ordering an arrest?"
