Claire's POV
Just then, Louis appeared at the doorway and our attention shifted to him at once.
He was standing there with multiple bags hanging from both hands, a cheeky smile already on his face.
"I got you both a few things," he said, raising his loaded hands as if presenting evidence.
My heart warmed at the sight of him like that, standing in my mother's doorway, bags and all, grinning like he was rather pleased with himself.
Beside me, my mum's mood shifted entirely. The heaviness from moments before dissolved, replaced by a wide, radiant smile.
Oh bless his heart.
Louis stood at the entrance, smiled wide, shopping in hand.
"Oh, good heavens." My mum exclaimed, already rushing toward him. "You didn't have to."
I laughed at her antics.
My grandma had risen to meet him too, and I just stood there, watching them all, my family, and the man I hoped would become my family as well.
