Claire's POV
Louis still wasn't here.
No call. No text. No update. Nothing in hours. He had said he was going to stop by to drop off the shopping bags, and I still hadn't seen so much as a shadow of him.
That was yesterday, by the way.
It's a new day and almost mid day and he still wasn't here.
Fear had started to creep in at the edges of my mind the longer I sat with it. I would have loved to give him the benefit of the doubt like I always did, before, but his previous intricacies made that incredibly hard to do so these days.
The appointment was today. My regular antenatal check-up, the one I'd already sent him the details for days ago. He'd assured me he'd be there. He made me promise to involve him in the plans.
I was a forgiving person. I knew that about myself. But I would not forgive him if he didn't show up today. That was a line, and I'd drawn it clearly, and made sure he knew that I meant it.
