Zander couldn't find the right words. The revelation hit harder than he thought it would. It was shocking to hear that Alexis—the man who had helped them despite owing them absolutely nothing—was dead.
"I killed him because the damn bastard deserved it."
The words came out flat and emotionless.
Elena's already stiff expression turned deathly pale. Her body trembled violently as tears gathered in her eyes.
"You don't understand. None of you understand. You didn't see what I saw." Her voice cracked. "The Underworld isn't the same anymore. Monsters are walking around disguised as humans. They're heartless. They don't feel remorse. They can do anything."
Her warning had little effect on Enzo.
He simply laughed.
"Is that why you broke into this house to kill Asher Devereaux?" Enzo mocked. "Xavier's wife. You're not even afraid of what we might do to you?"
