Chapter 60
Kael's POV
The moment Laura appeared at the end of the hallway, I knew the peaceful mood we had managed to build was about to disappear.
Tori froze beside me.
The smile that had been lingering on her face vanished so quickly that it was almost painful to watch. Her shoulders stiffened, her fingers curled into her palms, and all the warmth that had been there a few seconds ago seemed to drain away.
I did not need to ask why.
I knew exactly what she was remembering.
I knew exactly what Laura had done.
The fact that Tori was still standing instead of running in the opposite direction already showed more courage than most people possessed.
Riven looked between the two women in confusion.
Laura slowed to a stop.
For a brief second, nobody spoke.
The hallway suddenly felt smaller.
Colder.
More suffocating.
"Tori."
Laura's voice came out softer than usual.
Tori immediately looked away.
"I am not interested in whatever you have to say right now."
