Chapter 12 - THE JOURNEY OF THE TRIDENT

The men travelled far into the thick forest, galloping their horses to accelerate as fast as possible. Each team and squad were fully armed. The king stood up from his throne, diving around the palace like a sky diver. The men had less than twenty four to present the great trident.

He pictured the kingdom as a big ship about to wreck into the sea.

The great mystery and historical record about the terrifying atmosphere around the valley made his mind skip off his heart. Prince Luther was falling into the pit of death. If the trident fails to touch the city soil by the next sunrise, the king would be left to mourn and wail the demise of his heir and only son. The journey was taking longer than they thought.

The sun was fully set, portraying it glory at the center of the sky. Cole ushered his men to gallop faster. They had to move past the dry hill before night fall. Jay felt like a cult member who was going through the first stage of initiation. The sword in his hands was pulling down his muscle. What sought of metal was it made of? It shone so bright with an obviously sharp edge.

He wondered how a man would slit another human with a weapon so dangerous.

Unlike Cole, he had never got blood on his hands. Thousands has fallen by the sword of Cole. He had smitten mighty men of valor, leaving their blood to sink into the earth.

Like Cole would alway say. In a world built and establish with blood and violence, peace without a stain of war is inevitable.

A warrior who can't bare to splash the blood of the enemy is considered a coward who is too feeble to fight for his people. As the adage goes, make peace when necessary and fight with your blood and sweat, if the need arises. Cole words were fully nailed with wisdom.

If only he was smart, bold and strong like Cole, perhaps he would have prevented his mother from been captured by the beast.

Turning back the hands of time to an anti clockwise position was an impossible move.

He wished he was a time traveler, he would have travelled back in time and change the doomed fate of his parent. He would have undo the ugly incident. The world is definitely a diverse planet to exist in. Sometimes you smile and other days you cry.

The sun was vanishing slowly. traveling deep down into the far end of the sky. They had finally reached an important phase of their destination. The massive ooze of vultures flying out of the animal forest looks like a welcome party to the men as they ventured into the dangerous forest.

The breeze were calm and steady. It was very quite and solemn. Subtracting the vultures that paraded earlier, everything else seem completely harmless.

The men moved simultaneously in groups, spreading themselves in a wider perimeter.

Jay could sense something weird, a giant and hefty foot step was pounding towards their direction. Cole, he called possessing his attention. Something's coming! I can feel it.

What it son, Cole asked curiously. I'm not certain but whatever it is , it definitely fast and terrifying.

Cole blew the alarm whistle, signaling to the rest men to have a knowledge of the incoming threat. The men drew out their swords, prepared to strike down any obstacle coming.

The stomping foot came closer. The warriors knew disaster was coming.

The foot was sounding so heavy, forcing the ground to vibrate rapidly. What could it be?

The wind blew very heavy, taking charge of the big mangrove trees in the forest.

The dried leaves arose from the earth, accompanied alongside particles of dust.

The horses began to neigh simultaneously. The once peaceful atmosphere became a hunting domain. The saga began! One of the knight got his head chopped off his head by an unknown shadow, rolling into the ground in an oscillatory motion.

Each team leader beckoned on their men to stay tight with each other, defending clockwise and anti clockwise. The giant shadow kept taunting the men, chopping their heads off.

How humanly possible would they attack an unseen shadow. It definitely impossible.

Even the warlords became confused. None of them had the slightest idea what it could be.

But Cole did. He could sense the movement of the shadow. It was the beast of doom! Cole quickly alerted the rest teams. Back off guys, back off, he shouted at the highest pitch of his tunes. It not an animal, it a beast. The creature had devoured five men in a blink of an eye. The scenario was brutal. It more like stepping on a thorn in the dark.

Retreat! Each team general ordered their men. Cole was an exception! While the rest general was overthrown by fear and doubt, he wasn't. He ordered his men to launch a four wall guiding parameter around him. The men galloped their horses with a greater velocity. The beast ran after the men aggressively, craving to feed their flesh to the birds and have a taste of their blood.

The beast was fearless, much faster than the human eye. The men fire-arrows was totally useless and ineffective. Cole knew he can't keep up with the beast for long. He gazed up his eye and fixed them on Jay. He handled over to him the forest map. The young teen was surprised, he had no knowledge of Cole intentions.

It all in your hand kid, Cole shouted at the top of his voice. Go get the trident, I'll make sure to keep the beast in check and pave way for your movement. Jay was in a state of dilemma, he felt like a little monkey falling off the tree. B…u..t, he stammered in confusion. Do not forget kid, you are more than the ordinary, Cole revived his dozing courage, popping the notification into his skull.

Jay nodded in agreement. He grabbed the horse rein and saddled, galloping faster into the far bush. Cole made a U-turn doing all he can to deprive the beast of making a forward movement.

Every step Jay took rang an alarm in Cole ear. The young boy is the only way to redemption.
