Chapter 15 - A NEW DAWN

Happiness and joy showered upon the kingdom once again. The harsh hot weather became cold and relaxing. The prince was back to life. Inhabitant of the city were also not left behind. The sound of rejoice paraded each homes, except for those who lost their loved ones to the tragic hand of the pandemic. The trident was back to the city.

It back to where it originally belong. The king anxiety decomposed. His once sad face grinned happily with smile. Of course, he had every reason to be gladden. The prince, his son his back on his feet. There is no more recorded death associated with the pandemic. It felt like a ravaging miracle, circulating all over the kingdom and it axis.

But there was something strange, lacking the vibe of familiarity. Who was Jay? A popular question that is wide spreading throughout the kingdom and it abode, ever since the sixteen year single-handedly brought back the hidden trident which was safely kept at the third underground of the palace basement, a place only the king had access to.

The trident was a great and powerful weapon. It respect and summit only to who it found worthy of it undeniable power. Jay was the only one who could lift up the trident. Mighty men of valor in the palace tried their physical best to lift the trident but it won't budge. It stood still like a heavy rock. To their greatest surprise, what mighty men with column of muscle couldn't raise was lifted up by a little boy.

The king was shocked alongside the palace advocate. It was just as the old sorcerer had proclaimed. It felt like a dream in the wonderland but it wasn't an illusion. It real!

In the whole of the kingdom, Jay was the only inhabitant found worthy of the trident power and respect. Whenever he holds the trident, it shone luminously like the beauty of a Diamond. The moment he drops it, the light goes off.

A clear evidence that Jay was the only one chosen by the trident. But who cares after all. All that matters now is the sanity of the kingdom which has been resurrected miraculously with the help of Jay. The king found it ill spoken, that Cole should go unrewarded. In his opinion, such mighty deed should not be overlooked. As the adage says "One good turn deserve another".

He offered him the post of the superintendent general of all unit force in the whole kingdom.

This was huge, it a mind blowing offer. This mean he would supersede all unit general. They would need to take orders from him before taking any further action. The king was left mouth agape when Cole bluntly rejected the offer saying he appreciates the king for his act of generosity but he was okay leading his hunting team.

What a man! The king admired. He chooses his passion over what most men won't blink their eye before saying they do. But deep down, Cole had his reason. To him,it wasn't a clever move but rather a display of cowardice if he accepted the offer. He knew men. He had seen and mastered their mind. Men are full of greed. They never seem to get enough tea in their cups.

They always wanted more. He had once been bitten, stabbed in the back, even by a man he considered his best friend. That the scale of ratio at which men can go in the journey of conspiracy against each other. He would only create legion of enemy's for himself. The king beckoned on Cole, trying to convince him to make Jay an inhabitant in the palace.

That kid is the kingdom greatest hero, the king attested. Not only did he save my son life, he saved us all. A debt that can't seem to be paid. Let him dine with me, the king said, yet pleaded with Cole. Cole was short of decision. All he could say was, I would go home and think about it. Back at home, Cole was restless. He had been contemplating on the king request.

Exposing Jay to somewhere as cunning as the palace is no doubt a terrible idea. Series of tragic stories about the palace travelled back into Cole mind. There was a major case of the foreign sword man who reside very far away. The king had sent prince Luther immediate sister, Ariana to a far away kingdom. The prince of a prominent kingdom had ask for her hand in marriage.

He was a promising, charming and enthusiastic young man, having all quality of a good prince and amiably a picture of a perfect husband for Ariana. He was presentable, well spoken and composed. The two king met! They sealed the deal, making arrangements for one of the most royal wedding of all time.

On her way to the far away kingdom alongside dozens of bodyguards, they got attacked by a group of gang kidnappers under the supervision of the gang leader named Modrich. Intel had reached him that the famous Ariana, princess of the great Albion kingdom would be traveling through his territory. He received the news with smile, laughing hysterically at the hearing.

This was definitely jackpot for he and his men. An opportunity for their pocket to explore.

The battle line was drawn, the bodyguards sheath out their sword to launch an attack but they were overpowered. The gang slaughtered the men in no time and aimed for the queen.

But just in time, Cowan a skillful but underrated sword man came to the rescue.

His swords skills were very exceptional. He slew the men like drenched chicken. He saved the princess, bringing her safe to the palace. The king was so grateful, thereby rewarding Cowan as the captain of all palace guard. The young warrior humbly refused the offer, saying he will love to proceed in his journey but the princess had convinced him to stay.

That very day was the beginning of tragedy. As days rowed on days, the princess fell deeply in love with Cowan. At first he resisted her approach but for how long could he? She was just too beautiful to behold, a damsel indeed. They started playing love, keeping it a secret from anyones knowledge. They tried playing it safe by keeping the cat in the bag.

But it could no longer be kept. The king got furious when he learnt that an ordinary captain guard had been sleeping with his daughter. He burnt with rage. He was no longer regarded as the hero who saved the princess life but rather a cheap coward who tried to manipulate the royal family. With fervent plea from Ariana, Cowan manage to get away with a judgement the king considered merciful.

He was banished from the land and it domain and would be executed if he ever set foot on the kingdom soil. If not for Ariana plea, he would have got his head chopped off his neck.
