"Which one of you is Kaija Sepala's manager?"
Charles Kosonen's voice cut through the waiting room like a blade as he stormed inside without warning.
Now that the performances had ended, the room was packed with contestants and managers waiting for the final results. Conversations died instantly.
Every trace of color drained from the occupants' faces.
The backstage staff had reacted much the same way when Charles had swept through the corridors moments earlier wearing an expression that looked downright murderous.
For several long seconds, nobody moved.
Then Esko finally raised a trembling hand.
"Tha—That'd be me, Mr. Kosonen!" he blurted, stumbling forward. "I'm Esko. Kaija Sepala's manager."
Charles didn't even spare him a second glance. He merely flicked two fingers toward him.
"Outside. Now."
Then he turned and walked out.
Esko nearly tripped over his own feet hurrying after him, leaving behind a room full of confused murmurs and anxious stares.
