A long time had passed since the last time Jason had been in a dangerous situation; was there even a moment similar to this one? He couldn't remember it. From the beginning, he had always been focused on his objectives.
When he learned that he was in this world, all those known and unknown events gave him strong pressure to do something. He had to be smart in every single thing he had to do. He didn't have time to consider feelings; he used everything he had both to kill and to survive.
Many people trusted him; from the beginning he ensured that this was the case. He could say with certainty that before, he didn't care about dying. One way or another, he would die. After all, he was a simple human who was aging day after day.
There were moments when he was tired, not knowing exactly which path to take to move forward. Whether he was truly rebuilding humanity out of personal desire or simply to do something for himself.
But then he met Alicia, a girl who was forced to lead. She was very similar to him in many aspects, and after months of surviving in this world she wanted to make a safe place where no one else would have to run away.
With that in mind, she went to the Commonwealth to have an initial connection with that organization that Jason planned to have under his command. Many people were now in Jason's life; he began to feel once more the warmth of friendship, love, and of course protection.
In his previous life he had protected an entire country; he made sure that was the case no matter the results. And here, living another life, he was about to do the same, but this time he cared about the outcome.
He had to see with his own eyes the result of all his efforts, so he couldn't die.
...
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The rocks in a large room fell onto the roof that had collapsed. The sound of the walkers could still be heard because those that remained alive were still growling.
Jason's figure was motionless on the ground; no stone had caused him much damage, so he was intact. But his body wasn't moving, as if he was still processing the state of his body.
"Cof* Cof*!"
Jason coughed twice before an electric shock warned him that he was in a very dangerous situation. After taking his weapon again, which he hadn't released, he changed the magazine and lifted his body off the ground.
"Zz… Boss, respond!"
Jason didn't respond immediately; he looked at the dust rising in the darkness around him and checked his body. Besides some pain from the fall, there were no open wounds, which relaxed him greatly.
After taking his headphones, he connected them to his radio and spoke: "Zz… I'm fine. I'll look for an exit through one of the windows, so I need the hook ready to get out of this building as soon as possible."
"Zz… Yes, sir!"
"Now then, how did the ceiling collapse where I was?"
He didn't know how that was possible. Looking around, all those walkers had been crushed or had broken their limbs, making it impossible for them to walk.
But their growls were still heard nearby, and without giving it importance, Jason walked with some difficulty and looked at the ground. There was no need to illuminate the place since the light entering through the hole in the building gave him enough visibility.
"Are those roots?"
He looked at the greenish roots on the floor. He knew them very well, and they were in the reports he had received from Birmingham about the roots that somehow connected with special walkers.
After slowly walking toward the only exit, he looked around and saw how the wall had been invaded by this type of root that was slowly causing the wall to crack.
Moving among the debris, Jason kicked some walkers' heads and crushed them, finishing off many of them along the way. Now he couldn't shoot just to eliminate a walker, since the magazines of his P90 were too few to safely get out of this place.
Roar!
Immediately after hearing a walker heading in his direction, Jason lifted his P90 and fired once into that walker's head.
Bang!
The walker's body fell to the ground. Then Jason walked toward the door of the room he had fallen into and continued walking in search of a clear exit.
Then, more walkers emerged from the darkness, and Jason frowned and engaged in direct confrontation with those figures. For him, having gone through this entire situation was truly exhausting.
After eliminating those walkers, Jason felt a strong grip on his leg. The movement in his hands stopped, and he turned his head to look at the person attacking him from his side. With a grimace of disdain, Jason shook his leg, and after the walker lost its grip, he crushed its head with ease.
"Ah, damn it, this is exhausting!"
The pain came from all over his body, and Jason at this moment just wanted to get out of this place full of dust and corpses. But even though there were interesting things around him, he didn't have time to think about that kind of thing.
"Zz… Sir, the outside team can enter the building you're in. What are your orders?"
At this moment, George's voice came from the intercom and Jason stopped. He thought for a moment about his situation and said: "No. This building is also full of walkers, and I don't think it would be good to go out or in. It would be better if we all leave through the building you're in."
George, who heard Jason's words, responded shortly after: "Zz… Understood, sir. The building is on the north side. You can break a window and you'll see us."
"Very well, don't move from where you are."
Jason kept moving forward, but this place was extremely large and full of offices without any separation, making each desk or blind spot a place where a walker would come out to bother Jason as he advanced toward the exit.
"I'm lucky to have a mask. This place smells like shit even with it."
Crack!
But at this moment, halfway through, Jason stopped. There was a harsh sound of metal rubbing against something sharp coming from the room in the back, followed by the sound of dull and heavy footsteps from inside that dark place.
This movement caught Jason's attention, who had been extremely alert for a while. Staring at that back room he couldn't see, he had no idea what kind of thing would make that kind of movement.
Boom… boom… boom…
Each step that thing in the distance took, as if stepping on gravel, seemed to crack the floor, and it was then that Jason's heart began to beat strongly. He didn't know what was causing that sound, but it definitely wasn't anything good.
"What the hell is that thing?" Jason murmured as he changed his magazine, although he still had some rounds left. But that decision was the best he could make; he definitely wouldn't risk facing something unknown with seven rounds in his magazine.
Boom!
With a loud noise, the half-open door at the back of that enormous office room burst open to both sides, flying away with great force and hitting everything it touched, causing great chaos.
Crash!
In that moment, Jason's wide-open eyes saw an inflated figure over two meters tall slowly walking toward him. Its right arm was gigantic and had enormous claws sticking out.
As soon as that disgusting-looking figure saw Jason not far away, it let out a terrifying roar heard by everyone nearby.
Roooaaarrr!!!
