I am someone who gets bored easily since the constant distraction has been my companion for hundreds of years. The silence was torture. So I requested to learn how to use the katana. The elderly experienced samurai gave me a wooden practice sword. I began to slowly. I picked up the pace. I was given lessons to use the bow and arrow along with the tools that ninjas used. After each practice session we would meditate. After dinner I would walk around Kyoto admiring the sites. My teacher Kenji noticed that I was a fast learner. The samurai weren't very expressive but the ninjas were all very impressed. Roland casually mentioned, "Now we can call her ninja for real" Oleg watched me practice. I was practicing meditation when two of the experienced samurai and a ninja who were practicing fencing had accidentally cut themselves during a sparring session. The blood sprayed for a moment and some of each got on my face. I licked face and I took a moment to learn their fighting style. I also learnt that they were trying to find a way to leverage my stay to their favour.
I mentally mentioned this to the council and they sent a helix to collect me. I was moved state side to a different mansion. I smelled the air and I grinned, "Jesse. I am pleased to see you again" He was shocked he couldn't surprise me. I smiled, "Each werewolf has a unique scent. I identify those I met with the smell so I won't be victim to a case of mistaken identities." He asked me what he smelled like. I grinned, "You smell of Oak. Freshly chopped" he laughed as we inside. I shrugged, "Oleg smells like a bear. Roland smells like a newborn puppy. Igor smells like a dog after he has rolled around in mud. Kiska and Eska smell like wolves. Serena smells like pine resin. Elsa smells like oranges. Ivar smells like" I was interrupted by Jesse pet dog Fluffy. She jumped on me and licked my face. Jesse was laughing merrily. Finally Fluffy was moved and he asked me what Molly smelt like. I whinced at the name. He realised it was a sore subject. I took deep breath, "She smelled like grease and her bionic joints had a faint squeak. She kidnapped and almost murdered my friends. She was a horrible person. I don't know how she became a werewolf but she became worst."
No one asked for elaboration as we walked up to my new room. I sat down and Jesse brought some hot cocoa. I put the mug aside and grabbed his wrist. I showed him and everyone else how horrible she was. She was compared to the Indian and Alistair. They stared in horror as she killed her own father in the blink of an eye. Jesse snarled, "He did everything and in the end she just killed him? How ungrateful? What a spoilt brat!" The others concurred. Naturally I raised my senses to full battle mode. Oleg stared as I searched and double checked for troublemakers. I found one trying to climb the wall. Jesse had security handle it. He told me to calm down. Those days are over. I took several deep breaths before the knots in my stomach unclenched. The alarm bell in my head switched off Jesse told me to relax. There are no obligations here. I can use the pool or the other recreational rooms. I just had to stay inside where I won't be harmed.
I laid down and remembered a werewolf family that I rescued from Saber. It was mother and her two kids. They were trembling with fear. I brought them home and they took a shower and ate food. They were convinced the soldiers will kill them like they had killed their dad. I promised to use any means necessary to protect them. After a week they left and somehow I found their dead bodies outside machine city. I wished I could do more. I wished I was back in the good old days where I could do anything to be useful. I had a productive. Guard my friends. Look out for Nocturnals. Give them food, shelter and protection. They would try exchange offers. Their smiling faces was a reward all by itself. I finally calmed down to see smiling men and women staring back at me. I wish I could have done something to save them. Oleg made it clear that it was their destiny. I did my part but they left the safety of my house since their trauma was just too overwhelming. They felt moving was a safe bet. Roland agreed, "In the face of disaster we are ordered to keep moving so we can't be caught or killed" I tried to counter it but Jesse mentioned my neighbours would have said or done something. They did it to save me.
I explained that someone is listening to this conversation that is why we are using mind Comms. Jesse liked the term very much. The others called it invasion of privacy but mind Comms seems cooler when we are coordinating instead sharing embarrassing memories. Jesse was wondering where the eavesdroppers were. I pointed towards the windows on the my left. I looked out and showed him. X-ray vision helped me look through the walls and show a man with heavy duty surveillance equipment pointed at this house. Jesse handled it and managed to send him to a mental asylum. The private recordings were all destroyed. I stayed in bed trying to find some sense of peace. But the construction nearby was getting annoying. I realized they weren't from any construction company. They were actually thieves digging for a pay day. Jesse called in an anonymous tip and they were behind bars. I missed the days when I could help protect werewolves and vampires. I did it because I felt like I was protecting my family. I didn't do it to rub it in their faces. I just did because they deserved it.
I was bored so I went swimming. I did the butterfly stroke hundred times and the back stroke hundred times. I just floated on top and feeling the cool water. I looked to the side to see security calmly watching me. I took a deep breath and dove under. I wanted to see how long I can hold my breath. I slowly walked from one side to the other. I had to go up once I reached the other side. I picked up weights and tried again. I reached one side and walked back again. Then rise up for oxygen and go again. I finally got bored and put the weights back and got a pair of handcuffs. I took a deep breath and went down. I cuffed myself and laid down. Then I exhaled partially. I picked the lock and rose up. I used something different to pick the lock each time. Once I was bored I got up and got cleaned up. I practiced fencing till boredom overtook me. Then I practiced using guns. Then the punching bag. Afterwards I took a shower and a change of clothes later we went partying. We were enjoying ourselves when I smelt rotting corpses. I connected with the Nocturnals present and we all left the place after we warned the others that zombies were present. Some listened others ignored us. We dragged everyone out and let the police handle it.
We went to an exclusive Nocturnals only club where I danced till I felt a wave of embarrassment. Oleg drove me home and Jesse wished us goodnight. I like to watch him sleep. He looks like a baby. I heard a sharp cough. I ordered to mind his own business. Oleg diligantly carried me upstairs. The next morning Roland asked if I sensed a disturbance in the force. I mentioned an idiot creating a device to redirect the zombies elsewhere. Everywhere is populated. So that means more will change into those things. Roland roared and the others rolled their sleeves to do something. Jesse handled it. He was part of the tech committee so he called the police about a tech that was interfering with the stuff they were working on. I was enjoying a hot chocolate when Jesse came and asked me to sense around the city since a little girl was missing. I scanned the city and showed him where to get her. She was rescued and the police department was curious how he is able to find her. He mentioned a network of friends who keep an eye out for trouble. The officers saw me and made a few inquiries. Jesse mentioned I was a relative performing a welfare check. My house was currently under renovation so I am here till the place is fit for living.
I went to the library and pretended to sleep. The officers came over and Jesse gently tapped to wake me up. The officer asked me my name and Jesse introduced me as Alexi. I used sign language to speak and the officers stared for a second and Jesse explained that I am mute. So he translated my gestures into words. The officers waved before they left to find something else to do. Jesse was laughing as were the security. They were still very impressed how fast I learned. Jesse gave me a drop of him blood and I was able to understand all the tech in the house. He told me not to go out after seven since I might get hurt. I promised as I flipped through books to find something worth reading. I found a book on gardening and settled to read it. The next book was a medical journal like the one Daisy's brother used to read during commutes to community college. He was so focused he actually dipped his finger in hot tea. It took a few seconds before he jumped out of his seat. He was screaming profanities in Korean. His grandma smacked him in the back of his head. His dad grounded him for the rest of the month. I think they smashed his video game console.
