The heavy metal door banged open, jolting me awake. Two guards stepped into the room.
"Get up," one of them barked. "Both of you. Now."
I sat up quickly, heart already racing. Reid stirred on the other cot, rubbing his face like this was just another annoying morning.
"Make yourselves presentable," the second guard said. "Calista is coming to speak with you."
Reid let out a dry snort as he swung his legs off the cot. "Calista? You mean that voodoo witch with all the beads and rocks? What, is she going to read our palms and tell us our futures?"
I shot him a warning look, but it was too late.
The first guard narrowed his eyes. "Watch your mouth. You will show respect. Calista is the High Priestess of the Moonless Order. Her visions guide us. She is not to be mocked."
Reid leaned back against the wall, arms crossed. "High Priestess. Right. My mistake. I'll be sure to bow to the bead lady when she arrives."
Before the guard could snap back, the doorway darkened.
