The silence in the principal's office was suffocating. Jae-wook looked at Teacher Hae-in, who remained unnervingly still. For the first time, Jae-wook realized that his own rise to fame had inadvertently put a target on the person who had supported him since day one.
"This is a misunderstanding," Yoo-na spoke up, her voice trembling but brave. "Teacher Hae-in didn't fund anything. Jae-wook earned his equipment through gaming tournaments.
I have the records. Anyone can check them."
The Principal adjusted his glasses. "The records aren't the problem, Miss Park. It's the perception. The photos in that forum show a level of intimacy that the school board finds... inappropriate."
Jae-wook's jaw tightened. "Intimacy? He's the only person who treated me like a human being when everyone else looked through me. If that's a crime, then this school is the problem."
"Jae-wook, stop," Hae-in said quietly, finally turning around. His eyes were calm, but there was a flicker of sadness in them. "Go to class. Let me handle this."
Outside the office, the school felt like a different world. The "fans" from yesterday were now whispering behind their hands, and the laughter from Jin-ho's group echoed through the halls.
"We need to find out who posted those photos," Yoo-na said, her eyes blazing. "Min-ji said the IP was local. That means the original files are probably on a device right here in school."
"Jin-ho's phone," Jae-wook muttered. "He was the one grinning when the post went live. But he's not smart enough to hide an IP. Someone helped him."
They found Min-ji in the computer lab, her fingers flying across a keyboard. She looked up, her expression grim. "I tracked the forum account. It was created two days ago using a burner email. But the metadata on the photos—the raw data behind the images—wasn't wiped. They were taken with a high-end smartphone."
"Jin-ho doesn't have that model," Yoo-na noted, looking at the specs Min-ji pointed out. "But his girlfriend, Sarah, does."
The pieces were falling into place. It wasn't just a random act of jealousy; it was a coordinated hit. Sarah was the captain of the cheer team, and she had been furious ever since Yoo-na started spending all her time with the "Glitch."
That evening, Jae-wook and Yoo-na didn't go to the café. Instead, they stayed in the empty library after hours. The sunset cast long, blood-red shadows across the bookshelves.
"If we don't prove this by tomorrow, Hae-in will have to resign," Jae-wook said, staring at his laptop. "I can't let that happen because of me."
"It's not because of you," Yoo-na insisted, placing her hand over his. "It's because people are afraid of what they don't understand. They see 'Gun' and they see 'Starry' and they want to break us because they can't be us."
She leaned in, her forehead resting against his. "We're a duo, remember? In the game, when the boss is too strong, what do we do?"
"We find the weak point," Jae-wook whispered.
"Exactly. And Sarah's weak point is her ego."
Yoo-na pulled out her phone and opened the Shadow Strike app. She sent a message to Sarah, who she knew also played the game under a secret alias.
Starry: I know it was you, Sarah. I have the metadata from the photos. If you don't take down the post and admit the truth by tomorrow morning, I'm sending the evidence to the cyber-crimes unit and the school board. You won't just be kicked off the team; you'll be expelled.
They sat in the silence of the library, watching the "Read" receipt appear. One minute passed. Two. Five.
Suddenly, Jae-wook's phone chimed. The forum post had been deleted.
A few seconds later, a message appeared from Sarah: "It was just a joke. Don't take it so seriously."
"A joke," Jae-wook said, a bitter laugh escaping his lips. "She almost ruined a man's life for a joke."
"She's scared," Yoo-na said, looking at the screen. "But it's not over. We need a formal apology to clear Hae-in's name."
Jae-wook looked at Yoo-na, her face illuminated by the dim library lights. In the game, she was his support, his healer, his shield. But here, in reality, she was his everything.
"Yoo-na," he said softly. "Thank you for not letting me go back to being invisible."
"You were never invisible to me, Jae-wook," she replied. "You were just waiting for the right light."
As they left the library, the "glitch" felt smaller, but the reality of their relationship was becoming more solid than ever. However, as they walked toward the gate, they saw Teacher Hae-in standing by his car, his boxes packed. The post was gone, but the damage to his reputation within the board had already been done.
The battle was won, but the war for their future was just beginning.
