Chapter 15 - The Final Level

The Saebom High School Festival was a sea of lights, music, and laughter. The "Retro Gaming Booth" set up by Yoo-na and Min-ji was the biggest attraction of the night. But today, the atmosphere wasn't tense or filled with gossip. It was celebratory.

Jae-wook sat at the "Final Boss" station, but he wasn't wearing his pro-gaming jersey. He was in his school uniform, his glasses perched back on his nose—not as a disguise, but as a part of who he was. He had realized he didn't need to choose between being the invisible student and the famous gamer. He could just be himself.

"Next challenger!" Min-ji shouted into a megaphone, enjoying her role as the booth's hype-woman.

A small freshman stepped up, hands shaking as he took the controller. Jae-wook played gently, giving the younger boy a chance to see the "Legendary Gun" in action without being crushed instantly. When the boy eventually lost, Jae-wook shook his hand and gave him a few tips.

"You're getting soft, Gun," a familiar voice teased.

Jae-wook looked up to see Yoo-na standing there, holding two cups of strawberry slushies. She looked radiant, her blue ribbon tied neatly in her hair.

"Just enjoying the game for once," Jae-wook replied, taking a drink. "No stakes, no sponsors. Just us."

As the sun set and the festival moved toward the closing fireworks, Jae-wook and Yoo-na slipped away from the crowd. They climbed the stairs to the rooftop one last time. From up here, the school seemed small, and the city lights of Seoul stretched out like a glowing circuit board.

"I talked to my manager today," Jae-wook said, leaning against the railing. "They were mad about the forfeited match, but the publicity from my 'confession' actually brought in more sponsors. They've offered me a contract that allows me to finish school properly and only compete on weekends."

Yoo-na smiled, her eyes reflecting the city lights. "So, no more disappearing acts?"

"No more disappearing," he promised. "And Teacher Hae-in called. He's doing great at his new school. He even started a gaming club there."

Yoo-na laughed, leaning her head on his shoulder. "Of course he did. He always was a bit of a glitch in the system."

They stood in silence for a moment, watching the first of the fireworks explode over the horizon in bursts of gold and violet.

"You know," Yoo-na whispered. "Everyone still calls us the 'Hidden Duo.' Even though we aren't hidden anymore."

Jae-wook reached into his pocket and pulled out two brand-new keychains. They were custom-made: one was a silver star, and the other was a small golden rifle. When held together, they clicked into place like two pieces of a puzzle.

"We'll always be a duo," Jae-wook said, handing her the star. "In the game, in this school, and in whatever reality comes next."

Yoo-na took the star, her fingers brushing his. "To the end of the game?"

"No," Jae-wook replied, looking at her with a smile that was no longer hidden behind a mask. "To the next level."

As the final firework lit up the sky, the "Invisible Boy" and the "Popular Girl" were gone. In their place were two people who had found the truth in a world of avatars—proving that sometimes, the best part of reality is the person who stays by your side when the screen goes dark.
