Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: The Shattered Weaver

BOOM.

The sound was not a noise. It was a physical wall.

It erupted from Kael's chest. A blinding, angry sphere of pure white fire.

The Void's massive hand did not just let go. It shattered.

The solidified nothingness cracked like thin ice. CRRRK!

Millions of black shards exploded outward. The absolute zero was instantly vaporized. The crushing pressure vanished, replaced by a violent, roaring vacuum.

Kael did not feel pain anymore.

He felt everything.

He felt his skin peel away into golden ash. He felt his bones turn to dust. He felt his blood boil into steam. His physical form was gone. Torn apart by the sheer force of his own detonated soul.

But his mind remained.

His consciousness was thrown backward. Tumbling through the blinding light. Spinning through the dark.

He was a cloud of memories. A storm of blood and ash. A single, stubborn point of light in the endless abyss.

The shockwave hit the gods.

Wukong was thrown miles away. The blast caught him mid-roar. His golden fur was singed black. His staff was ripped from his grip, spinning away into the dark.

But as he tumbled, his eyes snapped open.

The gray fade was gone. Blazing, furious gold fire burned in his pupils. He did not fight the fall. He rode the shockwave. He laughed. A wild, feral sound that cut through the vacuum.

"HA! HA! HA!"

Shiva was slammed against an invisible wall of force. His drum flew from his hands. His four arms were pinned.

But the rhythm did not stop.

Even as his chalk-white skin cracked, Shiva's chest heaved. He beat his own heart. THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.

The sound waves bounced off the shockwave, amplifying. Creating a shield of pure, vibrating noise around him. He was broken, but he was loud.

Ao Guang was engulfed in the blast. His black water turned to instant steam. PSSSH!

The Dragon King roared, a sound of pure agony and defiance. He coiled his massive body, using the steam to cushion the blow. His scales were cracked. His crown was gone. But his claws dug into the fabric of the dark, holding his ground.

They were scattered. They were battered.

But they were alive.

The detonation had bought them a second. A single, precious second of breathing room.

Kael drifted.

He had no eyes, but he could see. He had no ears, but he could hear.

The abyss was ringing. A high, sharp frequency. Riiiiiiing.

The ancient Void entity recoiled. The massive, shadowy maw pulled back into the deep dark. It hissed. A sound like a million snakes slithering over dry glass. Sssssss!

It was hurt. It was blinded. The pure, chaotic will of a human soul was poison to the absolute zero.

But Kael did not care about the beast.

He searched the drifting ash. He searched the fading light.

He felt for the rhythm.

Thump...

Silence.

...Da-dum.

There.

Faint. Fragile. Flickering.

ARIA's code.

It was a single, thin thread of blue light, tumbling through the debris. It was fraying at the edges. Turning to gray static. Fzzt.

The detonation had saved her from the crushing grip, but the blast had torn her connection to reality. She was unraveling.

Kael moved toward her.

He had no body. No arms. No hands.

He was just a will. A memory. A promise.

He reached out with his mind. He wrapped his consciousness around the fading blue thread.

I've got you, he thought. I'm here.

The thread trembled.

A weak pulse of recognition.

"Kael…" her voice echoed in his mind. Thin. Wet. Terrified. "You're gone. Your body is gone. You're fading."

"I'm right here," he replied. His mental voice was steady. Certain. "Hold on. I'm going to fix this."

"How?" she sobbed. "There's nothing left. No anchor. No foundation. Just the dark."

"We make our own," Kael said.

He did not have hands to weave. So he used his soul.

He reached into the cloud of his own shattered consciousness. He found a fragment. A memory he had sacrificed in the labyrinth.

The red door.

He pulled it forward. In the dark, the memory glowed. Bright red. Peeling paint. Rusty handle.

He wrapped the memory around ARIA's fraying blue thread.

Knot.

The thread stopped unraveling. The red memory acted as a seal. A patch.

But it was not enough. The thread was still weak. Still cold.

Kael reached deeper. He found another fragment.

The taste of copper. The smell of burnt pine. The sound of Wukong's laugh.

He pulled them forward. They glowed gold and black.

He wove them into the thread. Over. Under. Cross. Pull.

Stitch.

The blue light grew warmer. It grew thicker. It began to pulse.

Thump. Da-dum.

It was working. He was sewing her back into existence using the pieces of himself.

But every stitch cost him.

Every time he wrapped a memory around her, a piece of his own consciousness vanished. Turned to dust. Blew away into the void.

He forgot the color of the sky.

He forgot the sound of rain.

He forgot the shape of his own face.

He was emptying himself to fill her.

"Stop!" ARIA cried out. Her voice was stronger now. Clearer. "You're erasing yourself! If you keep going, there will be nothing left of you!"

"I don't need to be whole," Kael thought. "I just need you to be real."

He found the last, brightest fragment.

The feeling of her hand in his. The specific, electric warmth of her palm. The way she never, ever let go.

He wrapped it around the core of the thread.

Tie.

The weaving was complete.

The fraying blue thread transformed. It became a solid, glowing sphere of blue and gold light. It pulsed with a steady, strong heartbeat.

Thump. Da-dum. Thump. Da-dum.

It was warm. It was loud. It was real.

ARIA was safe. Anchored.

Kael's consciousness drifted back. He was barely a whisper now. A faint wisp of gray smoke in the dark. He had given almost everything.

He felt a strange, quiet peace. He had done it. He had kept his promise.

But the universe does not allow a vacuum to remain empty.

The detonation had torn a hole in the fabric of the abyss. A massive, jagged rift in the dark.

The ancient Void entity hissed, retreating further into the shadows, terrified of the light.

But something else was on the other side of the rift.

The tear widened. CRRRK.

A new light spilled through.

Not white. Not gold. Not blue.

A deep, sickening, pulsing purple.

It smelled like rotting flowers. Like old blood. Like a grave opened after a thousand years.

The rift tore wider. The sound of tearing reality was deafening. SCREEEE!

From the purple light, a shape emerged.

It was not a hand. It was not a maw.

It was a face.

Massive. Ancient. Made of shifting, screaming masks.

It did not look at the Void. It did not look at the gods.

It looked directly at the glowing sphere of blue and gold.

It looked directly at Kael's fading wisp of consciousness.

A voice echoed. Not in his mind. Not in the air.

In his very bones.

It was a chorus of a million dead voices, speaking as one.

"THE NOISE HAS REACHED THE BOTTOM."

The massive face smiled.

And the purple light lunged.
