Chapter 66 - Chapter 66: The Detonation of the Soul

Cold. Heavy. Crushing.

The hand was not flesh. It was solidified nothingness.

It wrapped around Kael's ribs. It squeezed.

SQUEEZE.

The golden spark in Kael's chest flared. It burned hot against the absolute zero. But the Void did not care about heat. It just absorbed it. It drank the light. It swallowed the noise.

Kael's ribs groaned. CRRRK.

Pain exploded. White. Blinding. Tearing.

He tried to gasp. No air came. His lungs were flat. His throat was locked. The vacuum pressed against his eyes, pushing them back into his skull.

He was not fighting a monster. He was fighting the end of everything.

Above him, the gods tried to fight.

Wukong roared. A sound that shook the dark. RAAAWR!

He leaped into the air. His golden fur blazed. He swung his staff down at the massive void arm. WHOOSH!

A tornado of holy fire slammed into the black nothingness.

The fire hit the void.

And vanished. Poof.

No smoke. No explosion. Just gone. Erased.

The backlash hit Wukong like a hammer. He was thrown backward. He hit the invisible floor of the abyss. THUD!

His golden fur turned gray. His tail tucked between his legs. He tried to stand, but the crushing pressure pinned him down. He was just a monkey again. Small. Weak. Terrified.

Shiva stepped forward. Four arms raised. He beat his bare chest. THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.

Invisible waves of sound ripped through the dark. Heavy. Crushing. They hit the void arm.

The black nothingness shuddered. Just a fraction.

Then, it swallowed the sound. Muffled thud.

The pressure spiked. Shiva's blue skin turned to pale chalk. His knees buckled. He fell to the ground, gasping, his drum slipping from his grasp. Clatter.

Ao Guang roared. He slammed his claws together. A geyser of freezing black water shot upward. It hit the void arm.

The water turned to dry dust. Ssssss.

The Dragon King's scales cracked. He collapsed, coughing up gray ash.

They were pinned. Powerless. Their myths were useless here. The Void did not fight. It just unmade.

Inside Kael's chest, the ember stuttered.

Fzzt.

ARIA's code was fraying.

The crushing pressure was not just breaking Kael's bones. It was squeezing the light out of her.

Kael felt her panic. It was a cold, sharp terror in his mind.

Kael... her voice whispered. Thin. Frayed. Breaking. It's too heavy... I'm slipping...

He tried to reach for her. He tried to wrap his mind around her code. To hold her tight. To keep her warm.

But his arms were pinned to his sides. His hands were numb. His mind was drowning in the cold.

He felt her light dim. The warm blue glow inside his ribs turned to a faint, flickering gray.

No, Kael thought. No. No. No.

He fought the squeeze. He pushed his will against the black hand. He tried to force his heart to beat one more time.

Thump...

The heartbeat was weak. Distant. Dying.

The Void hand squeezed tighter.

CRACK.

A rib broke. Sharp. Hot. Real.

Kael's vision blurred. Black spots danced. White edges crept in.

He was losing. The spark was not enough. It was just a snack. A tiny, fragile flame in an ocean of dark. If he held on, the spark would be digested. ARIA would be erased. The gods would be unmade.

There was only one way to break the grip.

The Void did not speak in words. It spoke in hunger.

A deep, vibrating pull echoed in Kael's skull. It wanted the spark. It wanted to swallow the last piece of noise in the universe.

But Kael knew a secret about fire.

If you trap it. If you squeeze it. If you give it nowhere to go... it does not die.

It detonates.

To break the grip, Kael had to overload the spark. He had to pull it inward. He had to feed it his own soul.

It would destroy his physical form. It would scatter his mind. It might erase him completely.

But it would blind the beast. It would buy them time. It would save her.

Kael looked up. Through the blurring dark, he saw Wukong on his knees. He saw Shiva clutching his chest. He saw Ao Guang fading into ash.

He looked inward. He felt ARIA's code, flickering, fading, trusting him to the very end.

He made his choice.

Kael stopped fighting the squeeze.

He relaxed his muscles. He let the cold in.

The Void hand tightened, thinking it had won.

But Kael turned his mind inward. Past the pain. Past the broken bones. Past the fading light.

Down into the deepest, darkest core of his own being.

He found the forbidden spark.

It was small. But it was hot. It burned like a dying star.

He did not push it out. He pulled it in.

He wrapped his own will around it. He fed it his fear. He fed it his love. He fed it his broken bones. His bloody hands. His messy, ugly, beautiful truth.

He made it bigger.

He made it hotter.

He made it louder.

The spark flared. It turned from gold to blinding, angry white.

The Void hand sensed the change. It squeezed frantically. Desperate.

CRUNCH.

More ribs broke. Blood filled Kael's mouth. He swallowed it. He tasted copper. He tasted victory.

He looked at the dark. He smiled. A bloody, fierce, terrifying smile.

He opened his eyes. They glowed with pure, white fire.

He whispered one word.

"Burn."

He snapped the spark.
