Chapter 63 - Chapter 62: Eternal Sworn Friend

Chapter 62: Eternal Sworn Friend

Words like "monster," "accomplice," and "purge" were like red-hot branding irons searing Toho Hiroshi's nerves.

Touching upon the life and death of his comrades was touching the Inverse Scale he absolutely would not allow to be touched.

His eyes suddenly turned cold, and the air pressure around him plummeted. Without needing to release any Cursed Energy, the bone-chilling killing intent made the loudest shouting villagers stop abruptly as if their throats had been choked, retreating in terror.

However, Geto Suguru's movement was faster.

Just as the villagers' clamor reached its peak, the twisted smile on his face widened—an expression mixed with extreme pain, disgust, and frantic release.

"Heh... noisy monkeys."

He didn't even look back. The massive Cursed Spirit behind him let out a sharp shriek, and its huge body lunged into the crowd like a phantom.

"No—!"

"Help me!"

Screams, tearing sounds, and chewing sounds instantly replaced the clamor, erupting in the remote mountain village. The thick scent of blood instantly permeated the air, overpowering the musty smell of the shacks and the residue of the Cursed Spirit.

Toho Hiroshi's pupils sharply contracted.

It wasn't that he couldn't stop it; the instant Geto Suguru made his move, he had dozens of ways to intercept that Cursed Spirit.

But he didn't move.

His gaze passed over the wildly slaughtering Cursed Spirit and locked firmly onto Geto Suguru's face.

On that familiar face, there was now only frozen indifference and a cruel, satisfying pleasure, as if he were enacting "justice."

At this moment, Toho Hiroshi clearly realized that words were already pale and powerless.

Geto Suguru's heart had fallen into the bloody fork in the road he had chosen and had personally cut off the bridge back.

The slaughter ended quickly.

The village returned to dead silence, more complete than before, leaving behind only an unbearable thickness of blood and Cursed Energy residue.

Geto Suguru slowly recalled his Cursed Spirit, not even sparing a glance at the mess on the ground, as if he had merely cleaned up a pile of unsightly garbage.

He turned toward Toho Hiroshi. The bloodlust had not faded from his narrow eyes, yet they were strangely calm. "Did you see that, Toho? That is purging. It's simple, and it's effective. The filth of the world is instantly reduced by one chunk."

Toho Hiroshi watched him silently, watching his sworn friend walk into the deepening darkness. After a long time, he slowly spoke, his voice low: "Is this the path you chose, Suguru?"

"It is the only path where I can see the end."

Geto Suguru answered without hesitation. "Unless you decide right now to kill me here. Otherwise, as long as I live, I will continue to clean up until all Non-Sorcerers, the root of all curses, completely disappear."

Their eyes met, the air froze, and Cursed Energy silently collided and probed.

Finally, the sharp light in Toho Hiroshi's eyes slowly receded, turning into a deep weariness and sorrow.

How could he possibly kill Geto Suguru?

He closed his eyes, took a deep breath of the air heavy with the smell of rust, and when he opened them again, his gaze was like an unfathomable deep pool.

"I understand your choice."

Toho Hiroshi's voice was light, yet carried the weight of a thousand pounds. "In fact, I also hate this twisted world."

Geto Suguru was slightly startled, seemingly not expecting to hear such words.

Toho Hiroshi continued, as if stating a cold fact: "The strong prey on the weak, ignorance breeds disaster, kindness is misunderstood, and suffering cycles endlessly—it truly is rotten to the core."

His tone shifted, his gaze burning bright: "But I still don't believe your method is correct. This is not out of pity for the Non-Sorcerers, but because the end of this road holds only eternal loneliness and destruction, including for yourself."

"Moreover, Satoru would never approve of this path."

Hearing Gojo Satoru mentioned, Geto Suguru's mouth twitched, and a flash of complex emotion crossed his eyes, but it was quickly covered by deeper obsession. "Satoru... he is strong, and he will always be strong, strong enough to live in his ideal world. But he doesn't understand, he doesn't understand what we have seen."

"Which is why he needs someone to watch over him even more."

Toho Hiroshi said slowly, his tone firm. "That idiot is powerful yet careless, reckless yet easily lonely. He needs someone by his side. I cannot leave him be."

These words were equivalent to rejecting Geto Suguru's invitation and drawing a clear line between them.

The last faint flicker of hope in Geto Suguru's eyes was extinguished. He nodded, as if he had expected it, or perhaps as if he had finally let go of something. "Is that so... I understand. Then, let us part here, Toho."

He turned, preparing to leave, his silhouette resolute and solitary.

"Wait."

Toho Hiroshi called out to him.

Geto Suguru paused, but did not turn back.

The next moment, Toho Hiroshi's figure appeared before him like a phantom. His deep black eyes had, at some point, transformed into the magnificent and dangerous Mangekyo pattern.

Geto Suguru instinctively tried to defend himself, but heard Toho Hiroshi's calm voice: "Don't move."

A strange yet warm finger instantly touched his forehead, leaving an extremely subtle, undetectable "Wedge" deep within his soul.

The process was so brief it felt like an illusion.

"What is this?"

Geto Suguru frowned, sensing the faint connection.

"The Yata no Kagami Seal."

The scarlet color in Toho Hiroshi's eyes receded, returning to normal. "It cannot monitor your thoughts, nor can it control your actions. But it allows me to perceive your life status and approximate location."

He looked at Geto Suguru, his gaze complex yet sincere: "Perhaps one day in the future, when you reach a dead end, or when you regret your choices, this mark will allow me to find you."

He paused, his voice low but clearly etched into the night wind: "No matter what you become in the future, no matter how far you go, Suguru, you will always be my sworn friend."

Geto Suguru was completely stunned.

He looked at Toho Hiroshi, seeing the undeniable determination and deep bond in the other's eyes, and a few transparent drops involuntarily spilled from his own.

In the end, he said nothing, only giving Toho Hiroshi a deep look—that gaze was complex and hard to decipher, containing shock, resistance, and perhaps a trace of imperceptible wavering.

Then, he resolutely turned, taking Mimiko and Nanako, who were innocent but destined to follow him into the abyss, and disappeared into the heavy darkness at the edge of the night.

Toho Hiroshi stood alone in place, motionless for a long time.

The night wind scattered the blood, but it could not scatter the heaviness in his heart.

His scarlet Mangekyo quietly reappeared where no one could see. In his field of vision, a faint dot of light representing Geto Suguru was steadily moving into the distance.

The mark was set, the bond unbroken.

"Aren't you afraid the Higher-Ups will blame you for choosing to shield him like this?"

Toho Hiroshi did not turn around. The night wind brushed the stray hairs on his forehead, his voice calm and steady: "How much did you see?"

From the shadows, the crisp sound of high heels clicking on the ground drew closer.

Mei Mei slowly walked out, her silver-white long hair flowing with a cold luster in the faint moonlight. The crow perched on her shoulder tilted its head, its blood-red eyes fixed on Toho Hiroshi.

"I roughly guessed it the moment you suddenly used a Cursed Technique for Emergency Teleportation away from Jujutsu High."

Mei Mei's tone carried her characteristic blend of laziness and shrewdness. "After all, you paid me enough money to 'keep an eye' on Geto-kun's anomaly. Only matters concerning him could cause someone as careful as you to lose composure like this."
