Chapter 62 - Chapter 61: Suguru Geto's Persistence

Chapter 61: Suguru Geto's Persistence

"Understood. Thank you for the reminder, senior."

Nanami nodded cautiously.

"Yes! Thank you, Senior Dongfang! We will be careful!"

Although Yu Haibara didn't quite understand, he still responded loudly with full energy.

Toho Hiroshi nodded, stepping aside to clear the path: "Go."

Watching their backs, full of vigor and responsibility, gradually disappear into the night, Toho Hiroshi stood still, unmoving for a long time.

His crimson Mangekyo Sharingan quietly reappeared where no one could see, and in his vision, two extremely faint "marks" of light, perceptible only to him, were steadily moving in specific directions.

He could clearly feel the steady Cursed Energy fluctuations and life states emanating from that direction.

The seed had been planted.

Next was to watch over... Because of the Yata no Kagami' mark, even if the 'Window' made a serious error in judgment regarding the 'Land God' mission, and it wasn't a Grade 2 Cursed Spirit at all, but a terrifying Grade 1 entity nurtured by the villagers' long-standing fear and ignorant belief.

Yu Haibara and Kento Nanami still completed the mission without incident.

At the most critical juncture of the battle, when Haibara was almost swallowed by a fatal blow from the Cursed Spirit disguised as a statue, Toho Hiroshi, far away at Jujutsu High, instantly perceived the rapidly weakening life signs and violent Cursed Energy impact through the mark.

Without the slightest hesitation, the pattern of Yata no Kagami silently rotated in Toho Hiroshi's eyes.

The next moment, a pure, majestic surge of Cursed Energy, imbued with a dark purple glow, seemed to cross space, ignoring distance, and was poured into Yu Haibara's body from afar.

This external force did not seize control; instead, it transformed into the strongest shield and the most surging power, not only instantly repairing his injuries but also forcibly boosting the power of his Cursed Technique in a short period.

Haibara, who had narrowly escaped death, and the shocked Nanami seized the opportunity, working together seamlessly, and finally exorcised the Cursed Spirit in one fell swoop.

Although both were slightly injured and exhausted, their lives were not in danger, and their hearts were filled with lingering fear and gratitude for Toho Hiroshi's mysterious "insurance."

They did not know what a tragic outcome awaited them in another possible fate... And not long after, a storm was brewing in a remote mountain village.

Suguru Geto followed mission instructions to investigate and exorcise a Cursed Spirit causing villagers to disappear.

The process was smooth; the Cursed Spirit wasn't even Grade 1 and was easily crushed by him.

However, while cleaning up the residual Cursed Energy, in a locked, foul-smelling shed deep in the mountain village, he discovered two emaciated little girls, covered in scars and filth. Their eyes were vacant, like frightened little beasts, clinging tightly to each other.

Both had strong Cursed Energy fluctuations within them, possessing the talent to become Jujutsu Sorcerers.

From their broken, fear-laced sobs, Suguru Geto learned the appalling truth: The villagers blamed all the misfortunes of recent years—poor harvests, livestock dying, accidental deaths—on these two little girls with "strange eyes" who "could see things they shouldn't," believing them to be "bringers of disaster" and "sources of curses."

They subjected them to long-term abuse, imprisonment, and even planned to offer them as sacrifices in a so-called "ritual" to appease "divine wrath."

And the Cursed Spirit that Suguru Geto had exorcised was precisely nurtured by the villagers' own fear, ignorance, and malice.

"Why are they doing this to us..."

"What did we do wrong..."

The faint, desperate whimpering of the little girls was like a rusty saw, repeatedly pulling at the string in Suguru Geto's mind that had already been stretched to its limit.

Protect Non-Sorcerers?

Protect these monkeys who, due to their own incompetence, transfer their suffering to weaker beings, even children?

His long-held belief in "protecting the weak," the nausea from swallowing countless cursed spirit orbs, the ugliness and ignorance of Non-Sorcerers he had witnessed.

All the images, all the sounds, all the smells, erupted at this moment, converging into a monstrous sea of blood and deafening clamor.

"Heh... hehe..."

Suguru Geto lowered his head, his shoulders trembling slightly, letting out a low, distorted laugh.

He slowly stood up, his gentle facade hiding a nearly insane coldness and brutality.

Dense killing intent, like ink dripping into clear water, rapidly spread out from him, enveloping the entire silent village.

He turned around, looking at the villagers who had rushed over upon hearing the commotion but dared not approach due to the terrifying aura, their faces filled with fear and disgust as they stared at the shed.

It was these things, these monkeys, that created Cursed Spirits, harmed their own kind, and denied truly worthy lives.

Their very existence was a mistake!

"Kill... them all..."

He muttered to himself, a giant Cursed Spirit slowly manifesting behind him, opening its massive, sharp-toothed maw, aiming directly at the trembling villagers.

Just at this critical moment—

"Geto, stop."

A calm yet undeniable voice suddenly rang out. Space rippled like water, and Toho Hiroshi's figure appeared without warning between Suguru Geto and the villagers, his back to the bewildered and frightened villagers, facing his sworn friend who was almost completely consumed by darkness.

His appearance was silent, yet carried a weighty power that seemed to stabilize the world, instantly suppressing the violent Cursed Energy vortex at the scene.

Suguru Geto's movements abruptly froze, his blood-red eyes fixed on Toho Hiroshi, his voice hoarse and dangerous: "Toho? Move aside. These monkeys have no value left."

Toho Hiroshi stood between him and the villagers, his figure tall and unmoving like a rock.

His deep black eyes calmly met the swirling madness and killing intent in Suguru Geto's eyes, his tone still calm but with undeniable firmness: "Whether something has value is not for you or me to unilaterally decide, nor is it proven through slaughter."

"Proven?"

Suguru Geto laughed distortedly as if he had heard the biggest joke, and the Cursed Spirit behind him let out an uneasy growl, "What more needs to be proven? Look at them!" He abruptly pointed at the two little girls in the shed, trembling and, due to Toho Hiroshi's appearance, temporarily stopped crying and looked over blankly, "Look at their injuries! Look at their eyes! This is everything Non-Sorcerers do to us, the capable ones!"

"Protect them? Is this ugliness what we're protecting? Are the things I've swallowed meant to uphold this trash?"

The surrounding villagers were terrified by Suguru Geto's frenzied state, backing away, avoiding this terrifying devil.

The villagers' terrified and ignorant shouts broke the silence; they huddled together, their fingers trembling as they pointed at the shed and Suguru Geto, screaming at the suddenly appearing Toho Hiroshi: "Kill them! And that monster's accomplice!"

"They brought the disaster! Get rid of them!"

"Master Sorcerer, hurry and act!"

PS: The protagonist will rewrite everything, and I won't follow the original plot and outcome; what would be the difference from just copying the original then?

I find that many readers are impatient, perhaps everyone likes to read 'power fantasy' novels and prefers things to be glossed over.

Although the protagonist I'm writing is already invincible, I still focus more on plot, combat, and setting descriptions.
