"Kai, stop running," Anna said, taking a step forward, her hands extended. "Ray told me everything. It wasn't your fault, your father forced the—"
"I don't care what my father did!" Kai suddenly shouted, his voice cracking with a emotion Anna couldn't read.
He looked at her, his eyes trembling and his cheeks flushing with color. He opened his mouth and closed it, scoffing softly.
"I bit you, Anna. I looked at the woman I... the woman I swore to protect, and my instincts wanted to rip your throat out. I broke your ribs. Look at your neck! You're wearing bandages because of me!"
Anna sighed resisting the urge to smack some sense into him. "Kai, I'm fine, the antidote worked—" she reached out, but he panicked.
"Get away from me!" He yelled. He shoved her away, recoiling as if she'd hurt him with molten lava.
It wasn't a rough shove. But Anna still stumbled back. Her heel slipped and she grabbed onto the walls to steady herself.
