Chapter 45 - TRIAL OF WILL

Albatron moved, and the laws of physics simply wept. The Demon Lord fought with pure, unadulterated physical devastation—his bare hands tearing through the fabric of the air with every strike, generating shockwaves that pulverized the surrounding space into jagged shards of black glass. Each punch was a falling star, a thunderous kinetic hammer that threatened to crush Luke's marrow into dust before the impact even registered.

Luke spat a mouthful of dark, scalding blood, his boots carving deep, smoking trenches into the fracturing ground.

'My bones are splintering ' Luke thought, his internal voice sharp, frantic, yet terrifyingly clear beneath the crushing weight of impending death.

Every counter-attack is deflected, every defensive ward shattered like cheap glass. If I meet his strength with strength, I am nothing more than a broken toy.*

Albatron lunged forward, his fists coated in an abyss of kinetic annihilation, aiming to cave Luke's chest in with a single blow.

Yet, in the very eye of that apocalyptic storm, a strange, chilling clarity took hold. As Albatron's monstrous form closed the distance, a profound psychological shift rippled through Luke's soul. The suffocating terror, the frantic survival instinct that had driven him thus far—it suddenly evaporated, replaced by a cold, unyielding emptiness.

*I am not afraid of you.*

The realization was a quiet whisper in a hurricane. And the moment the fear died, the world shifted.

With agonizing slowness, Luke watched Albatron's overwhelming, terrifying presence stutter. As his heart rate steadied and the phantom dread of the Demon Lord's malice vanished entirely, Albatron's colossal, world-shattering aura visibly withered. The mountains of pressure crushing his shoulders lightened. The god-like Demon Lord, fueled entirely by the terror and despair of his prey, shrank, his terrifying velocity turning sluggish, his strikes losing their reality-tearing weight.

Without a word, Luke let go of his weapon, stepping forward and driving his cracked sword straight down into the unyielding stone of the ground. He let go of the hilt, stood upright, and simply gazed directly into Albatron's enraged, disbelieving eyes.

Raging with fury at the defiance, Albatron threw a catastrophic, world-ending punch straight at Luke's face.

*Whoosh.*

The fist struck nothing. The kinetic shockwave tore the air miles behind him, but the physical blow passed cleanly through Luke's body as if he were made of drifting smoke.

The battlefield shattered like a dropped porcelain plate.

Cracks of pure white light spiderwebbed across the sky, the ground, and Albatron's distorted face. Reality dissolved into cascading shards of memory and void, the deafening roar of battle instantly swallowed by an absolute, deafening silence.

As he fell backward into the endless, swirling abyss of the void, a cool, ancient voice echoed directly inside his mind, carrying the weight of a billion stars:

"The trial of the heart is conquered not by out-striking the monster, but by stripping away its foundation. You have seen through the illusion of despair. You have passed the trial, traveler."

Luke gasped for air, his body burning with the phantom pains of a dozen mortal wounds as he plunged deeper into the dark expanse.

"You have proven your mettle against your own inner abyss,"the mysterious voice continued, its resonance vibrating through his very soul. "Do not rest, for the road of ascension is paved with fire and judgment. Complete all the trials set before you, and you shall be granted an authority that commands the very fabric of existence. Prepare yourself. The next crucible awaits."

The void violently contracted.

Before Luke could even brace his mind, his consciousness was forcefully yanked, stripped of his own identity, and slammed violently into an alien, terrifying vessel.

He woke—not as a modern warrior, but as a primitive, blood-soaked ancient human trapped in a primordial hellscape. The air here was thick with the stench of sulfur and burning ash, suffocating his lungs. Towering, multi-headed primordial beasts of nightmare proportions stalked the scorched earth, their roars shaking the tectonic plates beneath his bare, bleeding feet. This trial offered no divine starlight, no system of refined circles, and no borrowed grace—only raw, agonizing endurance against an environment designed to flay the soul alive.

His muscles screamed under a crushing, unnatural gravity. A titanic, scale-armored monstrosity lunged from the obsidian fog, its jaws wide to swallow him whole.

There was no brilliant strategy. No masterstroke of tactical genius. With his limbs already failing and the jaws snapping shut inches from his face, Luke lunged forward in a blind, desperate, utterly pathetic scramble—slipping through a freak fissure in the melting ground purely by sheer, unadulterated luck as the beast's massive fangs pulverized the exact spot he occupied a microsecond before.

He lay panting in the dirt, bruised, broken, and shivering in the dark.

And high above the fractured sky, the silent watchers waited for his next breath.

Deep in the fissure, memories of the body Luke inhabited poured into him.

A proud human of the kantarez clan he possessed no mana core but an absurd physical strength.

He was exxiled to the forest below for not having a mana core. Deep in the claws of the vile jungle, he - Tharezax, steeled himself to dominate this world and bring revenge to does who caused his current predicament.

The sky above was not a canopy of stars, but a suffocating, churning ceiling of bruised purple clouds that leaked a sickly, bioluminescent drizzle, hissing the moment it touched the scorched black earth.

Every breath tasted of copper, sulfur, and the ash of burned epochs.

Before him stood a towering, three-headed behemoth—a multi-headed nightmare whose scales resembled jagged plates of black iron dripping with caustic, glowing venom that dissolved the very rock beneath it. Its limbs, thick as ancient redwoods, tore through the terrain with earth-shattering kinetic might, sending tremor after tremor rippling through the tectonic plates.

'There are no tricks left.' Luke thought, his internal voice sharp, frantic, and burning with a desperate, feral edge as his heart hammered a frantic rhythm against his cracked ribs.

'If I run, I die in the mud. If I rely on finesse, I get crushed to paste. The only way out of this hell is to tear through it with raw, bleeding muscle.'

The behemoth lunged, its central maw opening wide to unleash a suffocating torrent of pressurized heat that warped the air.

Instead of dodging, Luke roared, throwing himself directly into the beast's path. He slammed his fists against the creature's lower jaw, his bones fracturing instantly upon impact—a sickening crunch of cartilage and marrow echoing over the roar of the wasteland. Blood spurted from his pulverized knuckles, painting the black scales crimson. The monster shrieked, a sound that shattered the surrounding air, its massive weight slamming Luke into the burning earth. Ribs snapped like dry twigs, and the impact drove the air violently from his lungs, leaving him gasping on the razor-sharp stones.

Keep moving! Pain is just your body screaming that it hasn't broken yet!

Ignoring the white-hot agony tearing through his chest, Luke scrambled up the creature's thrashing frame, wrapping his arms around one of its massive, muscular necks. With a primal, guttural scream that tasted of copper and iron, he dug his bare fingers deep beneath the creature's iron armor plating, ripping the thick hide away in a shower of dark, boiling blood and shredded muscle.

The beast went berserk, thrashing wildly across the wasteland. Its razor-sharp claws carved deep, horrific gouges across Luke's back, stripping flesh from bone in a brutal, reciprocal display of carnage that turned the ash into a mud of mixed blood. Every second dragged like an eternity, a grueling war of attrition where every breath cost a piece of his soul. Flesh was torn away, bone scraped against bone, and the air grew thick with the metallic stench of their mutual slaughter.

Refusing to yield to the encroaching darkness, Luke channeled every ounce of his remaining primitive strength, locking his bleeding legs around the beast's neck and twisting with absolute, unyielding malice.

Break!

With a deafening snap that reverberated through the collapsing earth, the behemoth's neck finally fractured under the sheer brute force. A massive geyser of dark arterial blood erupted into the scorched air. The colossal monster convulsed violently, its remaining heads letting out a final, dying screech before its colossal weight collapsed, crushing Luke beneath its immense mass as the battlefield plunged into a heavy, blood-soaked silence.

As he lay pinned beneath the carcass, gasping for air through shattered ribs and drowning in his own blood, the desolate landscape began to dissolve into shimmering particles of light.

The ancient, resonant voice vibrated through the dark expanse of his mind once more, carrying the chilling weight of a god's decree:

"The trial of raw endurance and brutal resolve is complete. You have met violence with violence, staring into the jaws of absolute destruction and surviving through sheer, unyielding will."

The voice paused, echoing with timeless gravity as the fractured sky overhead began to stitch itself back together.

"Remember this lesson, traveler: True willpower is not forged in the absence of terror, but in the blood spilled in defiance of it. When the world seeks to grind you to dust, your survival is your weapon."

The darkness once again engulfed Luke, bringing him to the next trial.
