I turned fully, my eyes widening with genuine surprise as I stared at her.
Given how utterly awful our last argument had been, Lily was the absolute last person I expected to see showing up in this corridor.

I looked down at Dave, trying to keep my expression completely guarded, and offered a flat, dry response. "Oh. Thanks."
I turned on my heel, ready to march right past her and cut the interaction short, but Lily straightened her posture immediately, her voice trembling with desperation.
"Lady Seraphina! Please... please listen to my apology."
I frowned deeply, turning back around to face her with my arms wrapped tightly around the rabbit.
My dark gown and pale widow makeup only added to the chilly, unyielding look on my face.
"If this apology is just because you want me to go and speak with Nathan on your behalf, then I'm sorry," I said coldly,
"but I am not accepting it."
