Chapter 50 - After

Jay POV

After everything finally calmed down...

After the attackers were taken care of and the backup team made sure there was no more danger...

Keifer sent all of us inside the yacht.

I don't even know what that room was called, but it was basically the inside area where everyone could sit safely.

Keifer and Yuri stayed outside, talking with the security backup and checking everything.

Meanwhile...

Everyone inside was silent.

And honestly?

That was scarier than the attack.

Because these people never stayed quiet.

Especially Ci N.

The boy could literally start a conversation with a wall if nobody talked to him.

But right now...

Nothing.

Everyone was looking at me.

Not in a bad way.

Just...

Shock.

Like they still couldn't process what they had just seen.

Their sleepy, dramatic, chaotic Jay...

Had just picked up a gun and shot like she had done it a thousand times before.

Even I couldn't believe it.

I looked away awkwardly.

Nobody asked anything though.

Not even Ci N.

And that was when I knew...

They were waiting.

Waiting for Keifer.

Because they knew he would definitely ask.

And honestly?

I was already preparing myself.

Because Mark Keifer Watson was not going to let this go.

Not a chance.

As if the universe heard me thinking about him...

My phone suddenly rang.

A message notification.

I looked at it.

"Probably Percy or Jason..."

I unlocked my phone.

But my smile disappeared.

Unknown number.

My stomach instantly tightened.

I opened it.

And the message appeared.

Unknown:

"This was just a trailer, little Mariano."

"Don't think you're safe."

"This was only a warning for you."

"You and your boyfriend and friends got lucky this time."

"But don't think you will always get lucky."

"Get ready for the real war."

"Because I'm not going to let you get the Mariano fortune."

I stared at the screen.

I already knew.

I didn't need to guess.

Victoria.

Nothing but dirt in the name of Mariano.

A person who shared my blood but had no humanity.

My hands tightened around my phone.

Then suddenly...

The door opened.

Keifer walked inside with Yuri.

The moment Keifer saw my face, his expression changed.

He immediately came towards me.

"Jay?"

Before I could say anything, he kneeled in front of me.

He took my hands gently.

Checking.

Looking for any scratches.

Any injury.

"Jay, are you okay?"

His voice was filled with worry.

"Nothing happened to you, right?"

I looked at him.

"I'm fine."

But he still looked worried.

"I'm sorry, Jay."

My eyebrows furrowed.

"Why are you sorry?"

His jaw tightened.

"This must be Kaizer."

"He can't digest the fact that now I have the Waston inheritance."

His eyes darkened.

"But don't worry."

He squeezed my hand.

"I'll make sure this doesn't happen again."

Before I could reply...

He leaned forward and kissed my forehead.

And for a second...

Everything stopped.

My brain completely forgot about the danger.

Until...

I remembered.

Oh no.

The questions.

I was finished.

Jay, Jay, you're such an idiot.

Think of an excuse before you're dead because of their questions.

And exactly as expected...

"Jay."

I looked up.

Keifer was staring at me.

"How do you know how to use guns?"

There it was.

I stayed silent.

"Who taught you?"

Another question.

"When did you learn?"

Another.

"Do you have a gun?"

Another.

"Why didn't you tell me you knew how to use guns?"

"Why did you—"

"Stop, Keifer."

I quickly interrupted him.

"Stop firing questions at me."

He raised an eyebrow.

"Then tell me the truth, Jay."

I looked away.

"Actually..."

I hesitated.

"Percy taught me how to use guns."

Everyone became quiet again.

I continued.

"You know when you were in London... a lot of people tried to kidnap me."

Keifer's expression changed.

"I even got kidnapped a few times."

His hand tightened around mine.

"So Percy made me learn how to use guns for my safety."

"I just forgot to tell you about it."

I looked at him.

"That's it."

"I'm not hiding anything from you."

Keifer kept looking at me.

And I knew.

He wasn't fully convinced.

He was still thinking.

Still trying to understand how much I had gone through without telling him.

But...

He didn't question me again.

Maybe because he knew I was already overwhelmed.

Maybe because he trusted me.

The room was still tense.

Everyone was still processing everything.

Until suddenly...

Ci N cleared his throat.

"Okay..."

Everyone looked at him.

He gave a serious expression.

"I think we all need to accept something."

I raised an eyebrow.

"What?"

He pointed at me.

"Jay is officially the most dangerous person in Section E."

Everyone stared.

Then Felix laughed.

Drew immediately nodded.

"Honestly? True."

Calix crossed his arms.

"She looked more scared of her phone than five armed boats."

That made everyone laugh.

Even me.

I couldn't help it.

The tension finally broke.

And for a few moments...

We forgot about Victoria.

The attack.

The danger.

We were just us again.

A chaotic group of idiots...

Who somehow became my family.
