Chapter 28 - C28.Goddess of Victory,Holy Night Festival

Still enduring the curious stares of countless students, Mozo walked helplessly into the library.

Fortunately, Miss Audrey hadn't shown too much intimacy toward him. Otherwise, these creatures ruled entirely by hormones would definitely have lined up one by one to cause him trouble.

Still, these people were honestly impressive. Last night, all they knew was that there had been an earthquake, yet today they had already returned to school as though nothing had happened.

Then again, life had to go on even after an earthquake. Especially when it had merely been a series of mild tremors.

Shaking his head, Mozo sat down in his usual seat. After opening the book he planned to read today, he quietly began turning the pages.

Unfortunately, it was obvious that someone had no intention of letting him enjoy his peace.

Very soon, someone Mozo found somewhat unexpected approached him. After sitting across from him, the other party spoke directly:

"I'm Cote. Cote from the Noble Faculty. Student Mozo, would you be interested in stepping outside for a talk?"

Mozo frowned slightly as he looked up at the young noble wearing a pure gold brooch on his chest. Others might not know, but Mozo knew perfectly well that this guy was more than just a noble.

He was also the famous figure from the campus newspaper, Partygoer.

Back then, because of that pen name, Mozo had investigated Cote for a full two and a half years, only to conclude that it had all been a coincidence...

To put it bluntly, this "famous figure" was just a paparazzi obsessed with gossip and scandals.

Still, the man seemed to possess information regarding Mozo and Audrey. And Mozo also suspected that he might be a Beyonder.

After thinking for a moment, Mozo closed his book and said:

"If it's only a conversation."

Cote immediately smiled.

"I know a quiet place nearby."

With that, he led Mozo to a pavilion not far outside the library. Mozo knew the place too. Normally, it used to be crowded and lively.

Yet for some reason, after they arrived, not a single person came near.

After sitting down in the pavilion, Mozo asked:

"What is it that you want from me?"

Cote glanced around before sitting opposite him. Tapping the stone table lightly with his fingers, he carefully said:

"Could you tell me what exactly happened in the Old District?"

The atmosphere changed instantly.

Mozo inwardly became cautious.

"I'm not quite sure what you mean."

Cote scratched his head before sighing.

"Fine, then I'll be direct. I know you're a Beyonder, and I also know you dealt with the Inspectorate last night. However, I don't know much beyond that, so I'm hoping to learn more."

Originally, Cote had merely guessed that Mozo was probably an unaffiliated Beyonder. But last night, while he was at home, his butler suddenly woke him, saying the Inspectorate had come looking for him and hoped to use his family's connections to quickly transfer a property deed.

The Cote family operated heavily within the real estate industry. Whether in the Special Zone or the Imperial Capital, they possessed considerable influence.

At the same time, their family also maintained excellent relations with the Inspectorate, because the daughter of the Inspectorate's chief director was Cote's sister-in-law.

Mozo continued playing dumb.

"I still don't understand what you're talking about."

Cote rubbed his brow with an amused expression before taking out a copied document and sliding it over.

"This is a duplicate of an emergency property transfer agreement I processed last night. It clearly states that the Inspectorate intends to directly transfer one of their properties in the Imperial Capital to you as compensation."

"Granted, the contents alone don't prove much. But beforehand, I already suspected you were a Beyonder. Then something huge happened last night. So I guessed something occurred in the Old District... and that you likely played an important role in it."

As he spoke, Cote himself still felt somewhat dazed inside.

Because after helping the Inspectorate complete the paperwork last night, his spiritual intuition had suddenly prompted him to perform his family's inherited divination ritual.

And then... the mysterious divination that had been passed down through generations of his family, and failed in every single generation, had actually succeeded?!

Hearing this, Mozo nodded in understanding before curiously asking:

"If that's the case, then as a great noble, shouldn't you be able to obtain more reliable firsthand information directly from the Inspectorate? Why come ask me instead?"

As he spoke, Mozo quietly watched Cote while discreetly moving one hand toward the Gold-Eater Revolver.

Cote was a great noble. Since he could already touch upon this matter, then he should possess far more reliable channels for obtaining information.

So why bypass those channels and specifically come to him?

Unless... he didn't want the Inspectorate to know he was investigating this matter.

Still, the Inspectorate planning to transfer property in the Imperial Capital to me? That's absurdly generous.

After hesitating again and again, Cote finally pulled out a sheet of parchment.

"I need you to sign a contract with me. It guarantees you won't tell a second person about this matter. Naturally, the same restriction applies to me. You can examine the contract first."

He handed over the parchment.

The moment Mozo saw it, disbelief instantly filled his heart.

"A contract from the Faceless Court?!"

Cote looked both surprised and delighted.

"You know what this is? That's wonderful. Then I assume you also understand that this contract is both mutual and safe."

Originally, Cote had worried about how to explain that this was a legitimate and harmless supernatural contract. Yet unexpectedly, the other party actually recognized its origin.

Mozo, meanwhile, felt like laughing, crying, and being speechless all at once.

The Faceless Court.

An ancient and mysterious supernatural organization.

Though honestly, that part wasn't important. This world had no shortage of ancient and mysterious supernatural organizations.

What truly left Mozo conflicted was the fact that the Faceless Court had been one of the creations from one of his countless Dream Operas...

So the evidence from those dream worlds had literally been right beside him all along! Yet he had only recently realized everything was actually real!

And to think he had investigated Cote for two and a half years...

Since he knew both the origin and function of the contract, Mozo signed his name without hesitation and pushed it back.

"What is it you want to know?"

"Everything you know."

"Unfortunately, at most, I can tell you what the Inspectorate already knows."

Because of the contract, Mozo couldn't give vague half-truths the same way he had during the Inspectorate interrogation.

But likewise, because of the contract, he no longer needed to worry about Cote leaking information.

The Faceless Court.

Fair and secretive spectators.

After considering for a moment, Cote nodded.

"I can accept that! Go ahead."

After speaking, Cote solemnly adjusted his clothing and sat upright across from Mozo.

Through a special divination, Cote had confirmed that this silent witnessing would become the key that allowed him to pass the trial and officially join the Faceless Court!

At this thought, excitement surged uncontrollably through him.

At last... at long last, he was finally about to become a member of this great organization?!

Would his family's generations-long dream truly be fulfilled today... by someone as frivolous as himself?!

Heavens above, gods above, Primordial Above, this was simply too unbelievable, too astonishing!

Cote could practically already see the glorious future awaiting him after joining the Faceless Court!

Yet across from him, Mozo did not answer immediately.

Instead, he directly rubbed his fingers together in front of Cote.

"I need to confirm my payment first."

Cote's mouth twitched instantly.

The overwhelming heroic excitement that had just risen within him froze on the spot, and vanished completely in an instant.
