Out of nowhere, Julia straight-up turned her face away the second she saw Ray. Her eyes darted somewhere else like he was a total stranger. From the building lobby, a bunch of girls came out laughing and calling her name. Julia spun around and dipped with them without even glancing back. Walking fast as hell, like she was purposely avoiding him.
Karl, who was pulling boxes out the car trunk, looked over the same way. "What's up?"
Ray shook his head quick. "Nothin'."
Karl shrugged, not pushing it. "Aight. Let's grab the shit."
A minute later Lisa came out the building. She handed Ray a set of keys with a thin smile. "Here's the keys. Congrats on the new spot. It's already clean, just move your stuff in."
Ray took 'em. "Thanks."
But Lisa immediately stepped back. "Sorry, I gotta run. Got some sudden work bullshit at the office. If anything comes up, just hit the number I gave you earlier, yeah?" She dipped quick, leaving Ray and Karl staring at each other.
