Kael's POV.
I had only heard her groan in pain when I realized what I had done. What was I thinking? I shouldn't have marked her. She couldn't withstand it, the responsibility, the pain, the changes. Everything.
I had marked her as my mate, a human mate. I didn't realize I might have doomed her to a fate of endless possibilities. I allowed my thirst for vengeance to lead me. I had no choice but to do it, she led me to it, but guilt probed at my heart.
A human bore my mark. A human with no trace of Lycan trait, not even a trace of wolf gene on her bloodline. An ordinary wolf could barely go three days with my mark. If Elara was going to live, she had to have a strong wolf or a Lycan trait in her.
She had none.
Yet, I did it anyway. I doomed her and sealed a forbidden act. An act that had never been recorded. If my pack knew of this they would flip, the elders would run their mouth about customs and traditions.
What was this place doing to me?
