Chapter 69 - What Things?

By the time Saturday night rolled around, the apartment felt like a sanctuary, but a lonely one. 

I had spent the day cleaning, ordering takeout with Quincy, and trying to pretend that my phone wasn't glued to my palm. The office had been a minefield of icy glares from Julian all week, and by the weekend, my shoulders were entirely knotted with tension.

It was past midnight in New York, making it just past eight in the morning in Dubai. I was sitting cross-legged on my bed in a pair of loose shorts and an oversized tank top, typing up some personal notes on my tablet, when the incoming call chime echoed through the quiet room.

Audio only. William.

A familiar, warm flutter bloomed in my chest. I swiped across the screen and brought the phone to my ear. 

"Hey." I said, my voice automatically dropping into a softer, weekend cadence.
