"No." Neo said without even thinking.
Armin released air through his parted lips. It was obvious that he had expected that reply, but maybe it came out even sharper than he imagined. The pointed expression on his face said as much.
"It wasn't a question." Armin cocked his head to one side.
Neo frowned. "It didn't have to be a question for me to refuse."
The first and only time he'd had something resembling a date with Armin in his life was when Armin invited him out from the academy and they both had information to exchange over lunch.
Now, there was nothing like that. He had already gotten Armin to accept his coming to the gala. There was no need to suck up to him any longer.
"Your dad wants us to go out and explore the south instead of being cooped up at home every day. So yes, it wasn't a question. I was telling you so you'd know to prepare. And fast."
Neo's face fell immediately.
'Why, Dad? Why??' He wanted to scream out and vent.
