In Ray's room, a quiet, touching idyll reigned: he was reading a book, Lily's head rested on his lap, and little Violet, lying nearby, had her ear pressed to her older sister's belly.
"Oh, they're kicking!" the girl exclaimed excitedly. "I wonder who it was — Mia or Jessica?"
Lily found her sister's reaction very endearing, and she gently stroked Violet's head.
Finishing the chapter, Ray said: "I was sent a copy of our film. I talked to the doctor yesterday — they allowed us to watch it in Rosie's room. So you girls better hurry."
Hearing this, Violet quickly jumped up and rushed to get ready, making Ray and Lily smile tenderly.
"I really hope our little ones will be at least a little bit like this little angel," Ray remarked cheerfully. "Because if they inherit their old man's face, they'll curse me for the rest of their days."
"Don't be such a pessimist," Lily replied in the same tone. "I'm sure our little ones will be immensely proud of their dad."
After both films were watched, Rosie said: "I liked the second one better... 'A Beloved's Last Gift.'"
"Me too! That girl played so well. She was really cool on the set," Violet immediately chimed in.
"I liked the first one better," Amy added quietly. "It seemed to show me what could have happened if my life had turned out differently."
The movie night continued. Everyone knew Rosie's time was almost up, and they were doing their best to brighten her final days.
Less than a week after their return, the old woman quietly passed away. Ray and Amy were very worried about the girls, but Lily held up surprisingly well.
A few days after the funeral, Violet approached Ray with a question: "Brother, is it true that people who die can watch us from heaven?"
Taking the girl in his arms, Ray replied softly: "I don't know. Maybe it's true. But even if it's not, we must live so that those dear to us can be proud of us. I'm sure your parents and grandmother are very proud of what a wonderful girl you've become. And I think they'll be happy when you fulfill your dream and become a doctor."
