The Black Lotus had taken the whole top floor of the plain inn off the harbor road, and they'd done absolutely nothing with it.
That was the first thing Katarina noticed when the runner showed her up. The furniture was still in its shipping crates, stacked against the wall and roped shut. There was no crest over the door, no banner, no rug. Just bare boards, one table they'd uncrated for the occasion, and two chairs.
[They're not unpacking because they don't plan to stay. Cute.]
Renzo Caelford stood when she came in, which was polite. He gestured her to the chair across from him, which was also polite. Then he poured her tea.
And that was the insult.
