Claire's POV
After dinner, it was time to head home.
I was full and pleasantly satisfied, glad we'd gone out for that meal. I was especially glad he'd told me about the Kelsey situation.
"When is the school reunion?" he asked, glancing over at me.
"In two days," I responded. "Don't tell me you're still on about wanting to go."
He didn't laugh this time. "I mean, if I get the chance, I'd like to come with."
"Louis," I called out, exasperated. "Come on now."
He laughed then. "No, no, no. I'm just messing with you. I just wanted to know if you wanted me to drop you off or anything."
"I think I'll be fine," I replied, just as my house came into view. "We're here."
"Yeah." He said it quietly, but he didn't particularly look happy about it. His fingers drummed once against the steering wheel. "Are you sure you want to go home? We could go back to our place."
Our place. The way he said that made part of me almost want to give in.
"No, Louis. I'd like to go home."
