"Why do you think I don't love you?"
Rosalind Lowell lowered her gaze, playing with the sand on the beach. "You slept with Jessica Sutton."
Alaric Davenport frowned slightly. After a moment of thought, he asked, "The time at Don Lowell's estate?"
Rosalind Lowell shook her head. "I don't know. I just know she was with you."
"Do you trust me?"
She looked into Alaric Davenport's eyes, her heart aching faintly as if something had been torn away.
'Have I not been trusting him all this time?'
"I haven't been with anyone but you."
"I'm sorry..." Rosalind Lowell lowered her gaze, hiding her emotions.
"No need to apologize."
Rosalind Lowell looked up at him. He swiftly leaned in and captured her lips, then said, "This is how you apologize."
He reached out and pulled her domineeringly into his arms. She had been sitting up, but now she could only half-recline against his lap. He seized the opportunity to lean down and kiss her again.
