Chapter 5 - █4

I knock on the classroom door twice before opening. I can feel shouting and sounds of joy before I even enter the room. Benson notices I have entered. He walks over to me lazily and hands me a... balloon?

I lock eyes with Benson. The hell is he doing? No, the hell are they doing?! Where is the teacher?

Eluned: "W... what are you guys doing?! Where is Mr. Geek?!"

Benson: "Who on earth is Mr. Geek?! Did you create a new OC?"

Eluned: "H... huh? Wasn't there a teacher here about ten minutes ago?"

Benson looks at me.

Benson: "Uh... no? The teacher has been absent today. Besides, there is no teacher named Mr. Geek. You're not on something, are you?"

...He is right. I've been in this school for two years and have no idea who this "Mr. Geek" is. I guess I've been imagining things. Either way, Benson told me the teacher is absent, so does this mean I can do whatever I want? Kids around me are having so much fun. I can tell from the noise they're making. I can join them too, can't I?

I look at the balloon Benson gave me. It's dog-shaped. It's cute. The way it looks is so funny. Benson! Thank you for this gift; I had no idea you could make animal-shaped balloons like this. I'll make sure to treasure it, hehehe!

Suddenly, while everyone is having fun—me included—the door bursts open, and the "absent teacher" decides he is no longer absent.

Everyone stops. The kids stop screaming in joy. We all stare at the teacher who was supposed to be absent. Damn it. Just when I was starting to have fun. Bad luck, I guess. Oh well, who cares? What matters is that I still have this ballo—where... where the hell did it go?! Who stole it! I'm sure I was holding it.

No one says anything, and everyone returns to their seats. The teacher doesn't even say anything. He just stares at us in disappointment while crossing his arms. I ask Benson if he saw my balloon. Benson, while staring into the teacher's eyes—probably trying to see who will blink first—tells me:

Benson: "Which balloon are you talking about? There are many balloons here."

Eluned: "The balloon you gave me. The dog-shaped balloon."

Benson: "I don't remember giving you a balloon."

Eluned: "Huh? What are you saying? You just gave me one two minutes ago."

Benson scratches his head in confusion before saying, "Yeah, right." ...Alright. I'm not gonna unfold chaos over a balloon, you know? It would be nice if I still had it, though. The other kids still have their own balloons; I'm not jealous. I'm not. Benson is still very serious about his grades; I guess that's why he's so locked-in on the teacher right now.

Well... then I'll do the same. I don't really remember the name of this teacher, but I'm sure I can ask him after class.

Actually, no. That won't be necessary. I'm a bit shy and would rather avoid having a conversation with my elders. I can just check the list on the wall! Simple as that.

After a long, incredibly boring session, the teacher finally waves goodbye. Well, he scolded the entire class during the last ten minutes. But hey, it's better than those boring subjects, aren't they? Long story short, the teacher is gone. And with this being the final subject of the day, school is over. Time to go home!

I pack my stuff up quickly and check the list on the wall. There are the names of my classmates and the teachers responsible for this classroom. Let's see... his name appears to be Gabe Owners. Alright, I'll call him Mr. Owners, then. Under Mr. Owners, where another teacher's name is supposed to be, is just a blank box. When a new teacher arrives, this box will carry their name.

Until that day comes, the box will continue to remain empty.

This town isn't all that big, so I doubt that day will ever come. Well, then, it's time to head home. Benson is probably waiting for me at the school gate. I better not make him wait for eternity.

Besides, today is Friday. I won't be going to school tomorrow, so I can sleep as long as I want. Oh, maybe I can play some games, too.
