By the time I got back to my quarters, I was still overwhelmed by everything I had just heard. My mind refused to settle, replaying every word Enzo had spoken over and over again. It made me realize just how little I truly knew about this kingdom and the people living in it, and that had to change.
I couldn't remain the young girl everyone always had to rescue.
If I was going to stand beside Enzo, not behind him—then I had to become someone worthy of that place. I had to understand this kingdom, its history, its people, and the dangers surrounding it. Only then would I stop feeling like a burden whenever trouble appeared.
I entered my bedchamber, hoping a little rest would clear my thoughts, but sleep eluded me completely. Every time I closed my eyes, I remembered Adrian, the witches, the prophecy, and everything Enzo had endured before becoming king.
With a sigh, I stood back up. "Lily," I called.
She immediately appeared from the adjoining room. "Yes, my lady?"
