Chapter 10 - Nest

After talking with Mina, Kaelen was thinking about how to proceed in the future.

He took a bite of the Vitreous Pear, which tasted like cold glass and honey, the minerals instantly melted in his mouth and produced nutrients for fiber's in his body.

His goal was to reach Master Fiber Realm in 5 yrs while learning more about his fibers.

Next day the central plaza of Core Mage academy was bathed in the soft light of the sun.

Unlike traditional academy that rushed into ceremonies on the first day, the core mage academy wait for students become accustomed to the academy.

For two weeks, the five year olds had been allowed to wander, to eat, and to sleep within the dormitories or go home.

They were becoming accustomed to the high speed life of the academy.

Professor Vane stood upon the obsidian dais, his purple Expert Yarn Realm Mana extending outward like a calm, invisible sea.

It settled the restless energy of hundreds of children.

"You have had time to become accustomed to your life in the academy." Vane began, his voice echoing with a natural ease.

"We do not believe in rushing things into minds that have not yet found their footing."

"The reason for this late ceremony is simple, you must first become familiar to the environment before you can learn in it."

Vane paced the dais, his gaze sweeping across the rows of small, glowing mana auras.

"The UCC did not build this academy to fill your heads with redundant, ancient knowledge that may never serve you and may never serve UCC" he stated firmly.

"We are not here to teach you facts. we are here to build your character and confidence to live life."

"This Academy is an nest for fledgling to grow."

"Your goal in the academy is to gain a good mindset so that you can live and contribute properly in the society."

"Strength without character is a wildfire," Vane warned.

"We want to train people who contribute to the ecosystem of the society, whether through the strength required for protection, the wisdom needed for governance, or the knowledge essential for normal operations."

"Every field is a vital gear in the machine of the human society."

Vane gestured toward the hundreds of staff members lining the perimeter.

Men and women in silver-trimmed uniforms stood there, their levels ranging from Yarn phase ot Fabric Phase.

"You are never alone" he reminded the students.

"There are hundreds of staff members here whose sole responsibility is your well being."

"If you have a question, ask it. If you have a doubt, voice it. We provide the environment, you show the growth."

Then the focus shifted as the holographic banner of the Unified Council of the Cosmos (UCC) ignited in the air above them.

It was time for the Pledge.

"If you seek power to bully the weak, you have no place here," Vane said, his voice turning like cold steel.

"Power is a tool for the advancement of the species."

"If you crave conflict, the Galaxy weak Nodes are always in need of personnel to face the external threats."

"Do not waste your talent on the defenseless."

He reminded them that under the Council, the system was transparent.

"Those who attempt to exploit the laws of the council are punished with the same laws whether they are from ancient mage families or commoner family."

Then students raised their right hands, their fledgling fiber humming in a singular, vibrating frequency.

They took the pledge:

"To protect the galaxy and its stability."

"To aid the Council in the expansion of human potential."

"To become a productive citizen of the Galaxy."

"To never raise a hand against those without power."

As the final words of the pledge faded into the morning air, Vane's mana flared with a welcoming warmth.

The formal integration was complete.

They were no longer just children; they were candidates to become citizens of society.

"Now" Vane said with a rare, slight smile.

"Follow me. It is time you saw things which can help you grow."

With a sweep of his robes, Master Yarn Realm mage turned toward the West Wing.

He led the children toward the structural marvels of their new home.
