Chapter 150 - One Hundred and Forty Nine: The Path Home

The void beyond creation erupted into chaos.

Nerath-Kul's monstrous laughter echoed endlessly through the darkness while the sleeping Primordials stirred violently around them. Ancient eyes opened one after another across infinity itself, all turning toward the glowing golden thread connected to Luke.

The path back to creation had been found. And through Luke…

the Primordials now knew the way home. Luke's heart pounded painfully.

"No…" The golden thread connecting him to Lucien flickered weakly through the void like the last star before nightfall. It had been hope moments ago.

Now it was danger.

Nerath-Kul floated forward slowly, endless mouths whispering hungrily across its massive body.

"THE REALMS WAIT FOR US."

The sleeping Primordials began awakening harder now.

The void shook beneath their movements while cracks spread across the darkness separating creation from the ancient abyss beyond it.

Luke could feel it clearly through the Balance.

If even one of these beings entered the realms fully…

everything would end.

Heaven and Hell won't survive.

The mortal worlds. Gone.

Vaelthoros roared and slammed into Nerath-Kul again before the creature could advance further. Primordial darkness exploded violently as the two ancient beings tore through the void itself.

But Vaelthoros was weakening rapidly.

The Balance purification spreading through its body continued stripping away layers of ancient corruption while Nerath-Kul remained untouched by Balance entirely.

The difference in strength was becoming obvious.

Nerath-Kul drove massive claws through Vaelthoros' side, sending the partially purified Primordial crashing through shattered void fragments.

Luke cried out instinctively. "STOP!"

Golden Balance surged around him again.

The Heart's power answered his emotions immediately now.

Without thinking, Luke thrust his hands forward and the void itself obeyed.

Massive golden chains erupted across infinity, wrapping around Nerath-Kul from every direction while Balance threads sealed portions of the void closed around the awakening Primordials.

Nerath-Kul snarled furiously.

"INSOLENT CHILD!"

The creature tore against the chains violently.

Luke staggered immediately as pain exploded through his body.

The Balance was powerful…

but controlling it at this scale strained him terribly.

He was still only seven years old.

Still learning.

Still human beneath the Heart's awakening.

Blood trickled slowly from his nose.

Vaelthoros saw it instantly.

And something ancient shifted inside the Primordial.

For countless ages, Vaelthoros had known only destruction.

Hunger.

Rage.

Loneliness.

Yet this small mortal child, this impossible heir had reached into its darkness without fear.

And now… Luke was bleeding to protect creation.

To protect even him.

Vaelthoros stared silently at the struggling child holding back horrors beyond comprehension.

Then slowly…

the Primordial made a choice.

Nerath-Kul finally shattered part of the golden chains restraining it.

The void screamed violently as primordial corruption spread again.

"YOU CANNOT HOLD US FOREVER!"

Luke's breathing became uneven.

He knew that already.

The Balance inside him was beginning to destabilize from overuse.

Too many Primordials.

Too much pressure.

He could feel himself weakening.

And Nerath-Kul sensed it too.

The monstrous entity smiled horribly.

"THE HEIR WILL BREAK."

Vaelthoros moved.

Not toward Nerath-Kul.

Toward Luke.

The partially purified Primordial stopped before the exhausted child and lowered its massive head quietly.

Luke blinked weakly.

"Vaelthoros…?" The ancient being stared at him for several long moments.

Then softly:

"YOU WERE WRONG."

Luke frowned slightly. "What?"

The darkness surrounding Vaelthoros flickered faintly as ancient light continued emerging beneath its corruption.

"I WAS NOT ALONE."

Luke's eyes widened slowly.

Before he could answer,Vaelthoros suddenly turned toward the endless void and roared loud enough to shake infinity itself.

The sleeping Primordials froze.

Nerath-Kul narrowed all six eyes.

And then Vaelthoros did the impossible.

The Primordial wrapped its own ancient essence around the pathway leading back to creation.

Around Luke's golden thread.

Sealing it.

Nerath-Kul's expression twisted instantly into fury. "TRAITOR!"

Vaelthoros ignored the roar completely.

Instead, the ancient being looked toward Luke one final time.

The hatred in its eyes was gone now.

Only exhaustion remained.

And something else. Peace.

Luke suddenly understood what Vaelthoros intended.

"No…" The Primordial's voice rumbled softly through the void.

"BALANCE GAVE ME A NAME AGAIN."

Darkness and light spiraled around Vaelthoros beautifully now as the purification finally reached its core.

For the first time since before creation…

the Primordial no longer looked monstrous.

It looked ancient. Wounded. Almost noble.

Nerath-Kul screamed furiously and lunged forward.

But Vaelthoros unleashed its full primordial essence directly into the void passage.

The entire pathway beyond creation began collapsing instantly.

Luke's eyes widened in horror.

"VAELTHOROS WAIT.... "

"GO HOME, LITTLE HEIR."

The void shattered.

Golden Balance exploded around Luke while the collapsing pathway pulled him backward violently toward creation.

Nerath-Kul roared in fury as endless void fractures sealed themselves shut one after another.

The last thing Luke saw before the darkness closed completely…

was Vaelthoros turning alone toward the awakening horrors beyond the void.

Standing between them…

and creation.

Then the pathway collapsed. And Luke was falling home.
