Chapter 23 - THE HISTORY OF NODENS.

Most artifact encrypted inside the basement all had a significant story about them.

But the honest part was that, those stories could be either good or bad.

Above all was a particular treasure valued and placed in high esteem compared to others.

The said treasure was safely laid in a specific confinement. Unlike the others, it was placed in a confiscated safe glass. Right in front of Jay was Albion most powerful treasure, "the trident".

Jay counted his feet in steps, staring deadly at the stunning object. I heard your roaring voice snitching into my room, Jay voiced out, walking slowly towards the trident. "Marcel", the trident boldly called out his name. At a point in time, I thought you weren't coming.

Jay chuckled at the trident words. You called me, didn't you? Why?

He took a pause, skipping his words for a second and further proceeded. I mean, of what reason is this visit of mine. I would be a world class lier if I fail to admit that curiosity is eating me up.

How can you even talk? Jay had asked, finding such act abnormal. The trident decided to add a few more number to Jay curios mind by laughing in response to his question.

Jay was left in shock and dismay. What string did the trident just pull? Did he just hear it ooze out a laughter. Wow! he exclaimed. Anymore surprises! perhaps you wish to share, he questioned the trident, folding his hand and laying them to rest on his skinny belly.

Trust me Marcel, surprise never tend to end. More keeps oozing out as knowledge finds you.

Jay buried down his head below and raised them up. Hey "talking trident". He was about to spill more words but put to halt, noticing an odd flu in his statement. Oh sorry! that sounded kind of weird but that all i could up with. I…i…i mean, he stammered, slaughtering his statement half way but later managed to get them out.

After all, you a talking trident. I'm guessing you have a question to ask, don't you Marcel.

Oh yes! I do, he replied, coming a little closer to the trident. Why did you call me? I need reasons. That a good question marcel. You weren't called kid, you were chosen.

Jay just stood chilled, not really digesting what the trident hoped to illustrate. Chosen for what?.

You chosen for greatness kid. You are the one meant to protect this universe from any incoming threat. In your palm lies the fate of the planet. The trident spoke, unfolding some point which mathematically should be able to quench Jay curiosity but the lad wasn't satisfied. He still felt like some dullard who needed enlightenment.

He unwrapped his hand, bringing them down to their initial position forwardly pushing forth a question to the trident. What if I fail to protect this so called universe from whatever threat you perhaps saw coming. What if your findings were wrong. I might not even be the chosen one.

The trident vibrated from the glass, giving a hilarious laughter in response to Jay question.

Jay became uncertain as to why the trident tripped down the laughter lane. His face clocked in two, they were screening around searching for information. Oh, stop with the confused look kid.

Your question made me laughed my rib out, the trident responded, flirting around with Jay.

Now, this was getting interesting than he thought.

A trident claiming to have a rib! He had to write this down in his ongoing comic adventure.

You weren't trained for this, you were rather born with it. Your power is the threshold that defines your existence. It your destiny kid. Jay took in some seconds of complete silence. Sometimes your mouth doesn't have to always say much, just brace down and digest the word.

So what your own part in all this, Jay requested. That a lovely question Marcel. Isn't it obvious? The trident questioned Jay intelligence. I am your guardian, a powerful weapon only you can control. Your wish would always be my command, but remember, guiding you through the surfer is my primary objective. The trident sealed it lips with the final statement.

Understanding the depth and truth in the trident words became hard for Jay to accept. He low key dreamed of declining the reality staring hard at him but he just couldn't. Somewhere deep in his troubled pacified mind, he knew the honest truth. He is yet to catch up on his archery skill let alone a sword fight.

If he were to depend on this human made weapons, he could bet he won't last a minute on the battle field. Jay advanced his steps coming toward the ancient trident and grabbed a whole of it. He needed no therapy section to inform him. The feeling was totally different.

He felt a sudden power, rushing down his vein. A type that would be hard to comprehend.

His garment sparks in light. The trident shone bright, creating a serial connection with his eyeball. The moment should have been recorded. It felt Heroic, matching with the aura of ancient gods but Jay never wanted to be one. According to his understanding and personal thoughts , gods were neither saint nor perfect.

Although they were believed to be but the people tries to paralyze the fact that they do have their own flaws and mistake. A typical example was "Nodens" mostly titled as the lord of the sea. He was known to bring justice back to the victim and wrath upon the accused. A kind of god whose presence still took a stand despite it non -existence.

Nodens was known throughout the province of Britain and Celtic. He was greatly worshipped and humbly adored. But the tale wasn't a total clear out. There was a dark side of Nodens which historical writers skipped to record, perhaps because such actions never befitted the qualities of a god. Nodens held grudges, cursed people over petty stuff.

He was known for accepting curses, inflicting unbearable pain without been considerate. He was powerful but vengeful. He practice more of a hit man and less of a peace maker. Jay never wished to be a god or either be called one. His years with Cole had influenced his intellect.

Men with supernatural ability do have a high probability of making mistakes.

Perhaps the gods made mistakes because they became overzealous by power and command which rendered them heartless. Jay had alway kept himself in check. With a reassuring phrase that says, No matter the length and breadth of power he possess, he was still human.

He became totally confused, finding it hard to come to a conclusion.

No matter how hard he tries to dispatch himself, he still felt a weird connection. Would it be a save word to say he was a god? Wouldn't the word "god" sound slightly cruel. What if he ends up like Nodens and the rest gods. Jay thinking was cut short at the inflammatory sound of the door. The ground shook, vibrating in two different frequency.

This indicated the presence of two human figure. One was close and the other was fast approaching. Time wasn't on his side. All he had was few seconds left to smoke his mysterious self out of the basement . Even a seconds late could result to a problem of probably impossible resolution.
