"No, I got a call from the hospital. There was an emergency, so I only waited about 30 minutes," Jonathan lied quickly, trying to save Sella from feeling any guilt.
"That's good," Sella said, her relief entirely for herself. She rested her head on Jonathan's shoulder.
Present Day
Jonathan chuckled softly while comparing Zee's punctuality to Sella's. He smiled, remembering how he always waited for Sella, and she never once felt guilty about it.
Sella's past behavior was a powerful reason why he felt so comfortable with Zee now.
They arrived at the amusement park.
Zee looked at Jonathan with a probing gaze. "You're not afraid of heights, are you?" she teased.
"No," Jonathan answered briefly, his expression neutral.
"Good." Zee smiled broadly. "I want to ride the Hysteria."
Jonathan glanced at the giant drop tower, then back at Zee. "Okay, I'll join you," he replied confidently, perhaps a bit too much so.
