"Why did you run away, Kai?"
'Run, run, run...that's all you do...'
Kai dropped his hands from Uri and stepped back, his eyes cast to the floor.
A part of him wanted to deny it, to hold some level of defiance - just like he used to.
But it was true.
All of it had been true from the start. Every word that Spectre said.
He stood there and did nothing when Rami was drowning. He treated him like a pet he'd dragged home and begged to keep.
He knew that. And because he knew that, he never attempted to explore - if what he saw in his first life was even real - why it had happened.
Because a part of him knew it would be his fault.
Maybe not completely. It was a tangled mess of blame and guilt on multiple sides, but Kai knew he held the largest piece of that mess.
And he hated himself for it.
He hated being a coward.
He hated how afraid he was to confront - anything.
So hurting himself was fine.
But not Rami, and certainly not Uri.
