Rameses POV
Earlier that same day on the planet Zenin
Three hundred and sixty.
Rameses Hadiyyah had woken up the same way that he did every morning for the past three hundred and sixty days.
"Five more days." He said to himself.
Staring up at the ceiling of his dimly lit room he whispered the remaining days under his breath.
He breathed in through the heavy ache in his chest and forced himself to move.
Pausing only to brush a few motes of dust that had settled on the frayed note he kept on the nightstand in Kai's messy handwriting.
A promise that he held onto with every passing day:
'I'll come home.'
And for every one of those three hundred and sixty days, Rameses had begun to wonder:
This must be what it feels like when a piece of your soul goes missing.
Not lost forever. Just temporarily absent.
As though, one night, it had simply wandered off into the dark and forgotten its way home.
