Chapter 32 - Chapter 32

Pitch Black and The Promised Return

When consciousness finally returned, it came with a blinding headache. Ethan and Stella woke up to find themselves tied securely to heavy wooden chairs in the center of a vast, freezing, abandoned warehouse. The space was suffocatingly dark, save for a single, naked lightbulb dangling directly overhead, casting a harsh, yellow glare over them.

Standing in the shadows just outside the ring of light was the lead assassin, a cruel smirk on his face. In the background, a portable radio crackled with the latest news: Mr. Harold's 's victory was practically guaranteed.

"The election ends in less than an hour," the assassin hissed, stepping forward and dropping a heavy semi-automatic pistol onto the table in front of Ethan. He then sliced the ropes binding Ethan's hands, while keeping his own gun trained squarely on Ethan's head. "Pick up the weapon. Shoot your bodyguard, and we might let you walk out of here alive. If you don't, you both die right now."

Ethan's heart hammered against his ribs. He looked at the gun, then at Stella. He knew the enemy's game—even if he pulled the trigger, they would never let him live. But as he looked into Stella's eyes, searching for a sign, he saw no fear. Only absolute calculation.

Suddenly, a memory from their grueling training sessions back home flashed through his mind. He remembered the precise blind-transfer technique she had drilled into him for emergencies just like this.

Ethan stood up, pretending to tremble with fear as he picked up the weapon and aimed it directly at Stella. "I'm sorry," he whispered, playing the part perfectly.

The assassin chuckled, leaning in to savor the betrayal.

But Ethan didn't shoot her. Utilizing the exact wrist-flick technique Stella had taught him, he inverted the weapon and threw a lightning-fast, flawless pass across the short distance. Stella, who had already secretly loosened her hand bindings, caught the grip perfectly mid-air. She didn't aim at the assassins.

BANG.

She fired a single, precise shot straight into the hanging lightbulb.

Instantly, the warehouse was plunged into absolute, pitch darkness. Panicked shouts echoed through the hall as the attackers began firing blindly. But Stella had already memorized the layout of the room. Crouching low, she sliced her leg ropes with a concealed blade, grabbed Ethan, and guided him through the shadows.

The attackers tried to pursue them into the freezing night, but outside, the tables turned. Utilizing the snowy, treacherous terrain and her elite HSS training, Stella hunted their pursuers from the shadows, neutralizing the remaining attackers one by one until the threat was permanently ended.
