The phone rang once, then a second time. The ringtone made Hiro's heart sink. Without even glancing at the screen, he already knew who it was: Felix.
It couldn't be his mother, nor Jin. It was far too late for them to call anyway.
He grabbed the phone almost instinctively before immediately pushing his chair back and rising to his feet, leaving the table without so much as offering an apology to the person sitting across from him.
Unlike Izack, Hiro had never been particularly well-mannered.
At least not whenever Felix was involved.
He could spend the entire day angry at the alpha, swear to himself that he wouldn't answer another call, or even convince himself that he deserved to be treated better. And yet, the moment Felix called… everything else ceased to matter.
By the time Hiro reached the quiet corner of the restaurant, his thumb had already slid across the screen.
