Not to mention the chaebols—even S.H.I.E.L.D. could easily destroy an ordinary person's life if they wanted to.
That kind of power made controlling the world much easier than striving to improve it.
If authority cannot grant or revoke life and death, then what's the point of having power at all?
As one of the wealthiest dynasties, the Rockefeller family possessed that very power—wealth, connections, and military influence. The perfect trinity of dominance.
The crystal-clear toes, wrapped in flesh-colored stockings, were gently grasped by Steve's hand. Nisha frowned slightly, an unfamiliar sensation rising in her heart.
"I have something to discuss with you," she said.
"If it's important, we'll talk about it later," Steve replied with a teasing smirk. His tone carried an irresistible confidence that made women's hearts skip a beat.
Nisha was both helpless and intrigued. She had met countless suitors—human and vampire alike—but had never lowered herself to any of them. A princess had her own pride.
"Recently, several elders of the Council have disappeared," she began. "I'm responsible for tracking them down. If you can help me, I'll reward you handsomely."
"Reward?" Steve raised an eyebrow. "How exactly will you repay me? With your body?"
He wasn't naïve—Steve Rogers was no fool who would act before seeing results. Trying to manipulate him with charm was a mistake.
Nisha was different from Maria Hill or Sharon Carter. Hill, Sharon, and even Pepper Potts admired Captain America deeply.
Pepper had been persuaded by his gentle persistence, and the ten percent stake in Stark Industries she controlled provided her a sense of security.
But Nisha—she admired no one. As a pure-blooded vampire who had lived for centuries, she had seen too much. Though curious about Steve, she wasn't the type to fall easily.
Still, in a real confrontation, she knew she couldn't underestimate him.
"You must understand," Nisha continued, "there have been many crises in the kingdom lately. Once we resolve the issues with Faith and the missing elders, I can introduce you to my father. With our cooperation, your missions will go much smoother."
She looked serious now. "Vampires exist all over the world, coexisting with humans for thousands of years. I have influence—especially in New York. I can help you in many ways.
The Daily Bugle is my property. I don't know why my editors report on you the way they do—it's just to sell papers.
Besides that, I manage a nightclub, a bar, a hotel, and two factories."
Nisha refused to be treated as a commodity. Her siblings had been married off for political gain—she wouldn't follow that path.
She wanted to take control of her destiny.
After much thought, she found Steve Rogers to be the most suitable partner. A man of power, respected, and connected to S.H.I.E.L.D.—he could be an ideal ally.
Men weaker than her didn't interest her. Steve, on the other hand, had overpowered her effortlessly.
As a vampire princess with a doctorate and sharp intellect, she believed one thing: "Stay close yet distant—what you can't get is always the most desirable."
Even if she had to give herself away, it would be on her terms—when she was valuable enough.
Nisha coveted Steve's background and power, while Steve coveted her beauty and influence.
They weren't in love—but they were certainly running toward each other with purpose.
"Then, happy cooperation," Steve said with a smile, raising his glass.
Nisha smiled too, lifting her own. But Steve took it a step further, holding her arm gently.
"You'll be mine sooner or later," he said. "Let's drink from each other's cup."
Nisha sighed softly but didn't resist. It wasn't worth arguing over a simple toast.
The moment their glasses clinked, Steve suddenly turned, pulled out his Vibranium shield, and hurled it toward the curtain.
Bang!
A figure hidden behind the drapes was struck and thrown to the ground.
The shield rebounded neatly into Steve's hand. He narrowed his eyes at the fallen woman—a vampire. He had sensed her presence long before but had waited for the right moment to act.
"Wei Lian! What are you doing here?" Nisha exclaimed, recognizing her immediately. It was her personal maid.
"I'm here to protect the princess," Wei Lian gasped, clutching her abdomen. Her short orange-red hair framed a pale face, her slender figure honed from years of combat training. She was curvier than Nisha, especially in certain areas that drew unwanted attention.
Steve looked her over calmly. "Since we're working together, we'll need communication. Let her be the liaison."
Nisha blinked in confusion. "She's a vampire," she reminded him.
"I know," Steve replied. "But you said you wanted to deal with Faith. If he absorbs the power of a pure-blooded vampire, none of you will stand a chance. I'll have to take care of it."
He didn't mind sharing just enough information to build trust among the vampires.
Later, he would let Blade take on Faith while he stayed behind the scenes—ready to strike at the perfect moment.
That way, all the credit would be his.
"Princess, help me!" Wei Lian cried out.
Before Nisha could respond, the door closed with a heavy thud.
What followed were muffled cries—first painful, then strangely pleasurable.
