Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 - Will The Dawn Come

"Fortunately for you gentleman, it's ain't very serious. I understand, it hurts as hell, but could've been much worse."

Dr. Rore had told Richard Kyrr as he laid in the hospital bed, with his left leg elevated.

The doctor continued, "I know it's a hard time for you. But let's strive to look at the brighter side, shall we?"

He looked at Richard warmly, his eyes heavy with understanding. "You see, it appears your wife, if I may say so, saw you enter an alleyway and immediately ran into a pharmacy. But you can't just buy deadly chemicals like you're shopping, y'know. So she grabbed whatever she could and exited. This is what the police informed me to tell you.

"And also she missed your face, thanks to your reflexes, and her scream brought in people who grabbed her just in time, before she would've smashed your head with a broken glass or somethin'."

Richard stayed silent. He looked around him — an AC was spitting cold fog into the room, patients were there all around him, the large television was screaming out random noises.

The hospital was an expensive one.

Richard closed his eyes tightly. The tick of the clock annoyed him as his fingers tightened around the blankets.

Tsking, he asked coldly "Where is Jane?"

"I'm not sure I can answer that." Dr. Rore answered patiently.

"Just say it if you know, Goddammit!"

Rore looked around himself. "There are a lot of patients I need to consult."

Richard continued looking at him, deeply frustrated.

The doctor sighed, "I may get into trouble. You really want that?"

"Yes." Richard replied.

Rore smirked, revealing a missing upper tooth.

"Alright." he said, "She's under police custody as of now. That's all I know. The nurse said the arraignment is in 3 days, but I'm not sure."

The doctor turned around, "Focus on your health right now. So… may I? " asked the doctor and he left.

Richard had wanted relief, but this only made him anguished. He picked his phone from the desk and called Jane five times before an officer answered.

Everything the officer said only confirmed the doctor's words. The officer also added that Richard was wanted in the court, as his ex-wife reported a complaint on his name — that she had suffered intense mental distress due to his actions.

 ******************************

Richard had nearly fainted when he saw the chainsaw, but he didn't or else he would have been dead. His heart in his throat, he went through the doorway running for a back door. There must be one, every house has one.

Richard reached the kitchen and looked to his left. There the door was. He turned and ran towards it. He could hear Jane scraping the floor with the chainsaw; getting closer to him. He could hear her say something.

Richard grabbed the handle, and turned it open. The old door was stuck. "C'mon," he muttered, afraid to make any noise. The door wouldn't open, it was stuck to the floor. Jane was getting closer. The whirr of the chainsaw got louder as she entered the kitchen. Richard turned his head and looked at her, his eyes widening as he saw her ten feet away. She was… humming.

He had no escape. No way to go around her, as she was walking steadfast, covering the doorway. Richard felt hope ooze out of him. His hands joined each other and he begged Jane, "P-P-Please, let me live." Jane walked on, now five feet away from him. She was whistling, the hungry look growing in her eyes.

Richard wildly looked around the kitchen, as he saw his daughter's face in front of him.

His hands grabbed a glass cup above the countertop and he threw it at Jane. She moved fast; her whirring chainsaw blocked the glass, shredding it into pieces. Richard had turned to the door, and a piece of it struck his back. He hissed.

He pulled the door with all his might, giving a small gap. He couldn't pull it any further as it was stuck to the floor, so he lifted it before pulling. It opened a bit more.

Jane saw Richard wriggle through the ajar door. Daylight poured into the house as she watched him crawl toward freedom. Freedom — after she had rotted within four white walls. After leaving her behind. After getting fame and money. After the provocative Ore…

Jane's whistle turned into a roar. She kicked the door closed; and Richard's left wrist got stuck inside. "YES!" her voice rang out, laced with triumphant laughter. Her leg pushing the door firmly, she groaned and lifted the chainsaw.

Richard was seeing the garden in front of him. If he jumped the fence, and walked twenty feet, people would notice him. But his hand was stuck behind the door. Sweat leaking like an open tap, his eyes were blurred with them. He pulled his hands in a fit of frenzy, but they were really trapped —- he felt his wrist break and blood leak. "N-N-No… no." He cried, pulling ever harder. His throat gave way to a bellowing cry as he felt an immense electrical force hit his watch. His entire body began to convulse, as his watch broke and a sharp metal cleanly entered his flesh. Moaning, his hands loosened and got freed from the door. Its insides were half empty. Then, the door closed tight.

Eyes bleeding, Richard walked forward trembling, then fell as his legs lost strength. His entire body shuddered; he was unable to make a single noise. The last thing he saw was the chainsaw through the door, cutting it open. Then its noise echoed through the town, and his pain was forgotten.
