CHAPTER 25: A heart that refuses to Yield
The palace had not changed.
But something within it had.
And Emily could feel it.
Standing before her mirror, she studied her reflection, not with doubt, but with resolve.
She had waited long enough.
She had remained patient, respectful... distant.
But that had gotten her nowhere.
Tonight, she would speak.
Not as a queen bound by duty.
But as a woman who had chosen with feelings.
Kira stood by the tall windows of his chamber, his thoughts far from the palace walls.
The night air was calm.
Too calm.
His mind drifted again to things he could not fully understand.
He kept on thinking about his promises never to fall in love and how he is going back on his words because of Helena.
The moment he was trying to bury his thoughts.
A knock came.
"Come in."
The door slowly opened
Emily stepped inside.
Kira turned, slightly surprised.
"Emily."
Her presence was different tonight--not forceful, but intentional.
" I hope I'm not interrupting," she said.
" You're not," he replied calmly.
Silence followed.
But this time... Emily didn't let it stay
She stepped closer.
" I need to tell you something," she began.
Kira's attention sharpened.
"For a long time, I told myself our marriage was just an arrangement," she continued." Something political."
She paused
Then looked directly at him.
"But that's not true."
Kira didn't move.
"I chose you," she said quietly." Not because I had to... But because I wanted to."
The words were simple.
But heavy.
" I have feelings for you, Kira," she added. And I'm tired of pretending that I don't."
The room fell silent.
Kira looked at her~ not coldly, not harshly, but carefully.
Like he was trying to understand something that didn't yet h
ave a name.
" Emily..." he began
But he didn't step closer.
Didn't reach for her.
" I respect you," he said slowly." More than you think."
Her eyes flickered slightly.
"But I won't lie to you."
There it was.
The line.
" I don't know what I feel,"he continued." And I won't give you something uncertain."
Not rejection.
But not acceptance either.
Emily's fingers tightened slightly at her sides.
" Is there someone else ?" She asked quietly.
Kira hesitated.
Not because he had an answer..
But because he didn't.
" I don't know," he admitted.
And somehow that hurt more.
Emily let out a slow breath.
She nodded once
Composed
Controlled.
"I see," she said softly.
Not a threat.
A promise.
And then she left.

Far from the palace...
Hidden where no royal eyes could see--
Two figures stood beneath the cover of darkness.
" She's awakened," the woman said.
Her voice trembled, not with fear alone, but with urgency.
"I felt it."
The man beside her remained still, his gaze distant.
" I tried to seal it," he replied. " But it was never meant to stay hidden forever."
The woman expression darkened.
" They will come for her."
A pause.
Heavy.
Unavoidable.
" The witches were the only beginning."
The man clenched his jaw slightly.
" Then we don't wot anymore."
He turned to her.
" We moved closer. "
" To protect her?"
He nodded.
"And to prepare her."
The woman hesitated.
" She doesn't even know what she is."
"That's exactly why we don't have time."

Back in the palace...
Helena stood alone in the quiet corridor.
Her hands trembled slightly.
Not from fear.
But from something deeper.
Something inside her....
Restless.
Growing.
She pressed her palm against the cold wall, trying to steady herself.
But the moment she closed her eyes--
A faint pulse of energy flickered through her.
Quick.
Uncontrolled.
Gone.
Helena stepped back,her breathing uneven.
"What's....happening to me.....?"
But no one answered.
And somewhere far away--
Something had already began to watch her
