Chapter 92: The Expression Sites Discovery
POV: Sam Barton
Connor arrives at the Salvatore boarding house one week after Klaus's return, still moving carefully from his explosion injuries but determined to contribute.
"Hunter lore," Connor begins, spreading maps across the table. "Expression magic requires geometric patterns—triangles of death connecting power nodes. Shane's been activating sites for months, maybe years."
Using Connor's knowledge combined with my Sensory clone's enhanced detection, we spend three days identifying massacre locations across Virginia. Each site radiates residual death energy that makes my Magic Absorption clone shudder with the wrongness of it.
"Twelve sites total," I report to the assembled alliance. "Forming three interconnected triangles across Virginia. Each point represents dozens of deaths."
Bonnie's face goes pale as she examines the map. "If Shane completes this pattern and channels all that death simultaneously, he'll have power of nearly two hundred sacrifices flowing through him. That's... that's apocalyptic magical force."
"Can we disrupt it?" Elijah asks.
"Cleansing ritual," Bonnie proposes. "Bennett ancestral magic can purify Expression sites, break the geometric pattern. But it requires going to each location physically, and Shane's already activated most of them."
Klaus volunteers his hybrid pack for security during the vulnerable ritual moments. "Shane won't give up his power sources without fighting back."
We cleanse three sites over two days—Bonnie channeling Bennett light magic while my Magic Absorption clone drains residual death energy, the combined effort purifying locations where Shane performed his murders.
At each site, I feel the horror of what happened: hikers who vanished, runaways no one reported missing, people Shane selected specifically because their deaths wouldn't be investigated too closely.
"He's been planning this for years," I realize. "Building Expression power through methodical, untraceable kills."
But despite cleansing three sites, Shane activated nine of the twelve before we intervened. Three triangles remain powerful enough for his purposes.
"Where does he complete the pattern?" Stefan asks.
Elijah's centuries of strategic thinking provide the answer. "Shane needs densely populated area with supernatural significance. Mystic Falls fits perfectly—town built on witch burial ground, vampire and werewolf history, doppelgänger presence."
Caroline's organizational mind makes the connection I've been dreading. "Senior prom. It's in two weeks. Entire senior class plus chaperones, faculty, parents—easily three hundred people in one location."
The room goes silent as everyone processes the implications.
Shane's going to massacre prom.

"We evacuate," Damon suggests immediately. "Cancel prom, scatter the students, deny Shane his target."
"He'll just attack somewhere else," I counter. "School assembly, graduation ceremony, town festival. We can't protect everyone everywhere. But if we know when and where he's striking, we can prepare."
Klaus laughs with dark appreciation. "You're planning to use three hundred potential victims as bait while protecting them all simultaneously. Ambitious even by Original standards."
"Can you actually do it?" Connor asks via video call from his hospital bed.
I look at my assembled resources: six clones with specialized capabilities, Klaus's hybrid pack, the most powerful Bennett witch in generations, Original vampires with centuries of combat experience, Sheriff Liz's tactical units, Connor's hunter knowledge.
"We don't have a choice," I reply. "Shane's coming for Mystic Falls either way. We make our stand at prom with preparation and overwhelming force, or we face him unprepared somewhere else."
Caroline's already opening her event planning binder. "Then we have two weeks to prepare the most fortified prom in history while making it look like normal high school event. I can work with that."
Only Caroline Forbes could respond to impending massacre with organizational determination.
